Submitting Articles to Websites

There are hundreds of sites that you can submit your article (that are primarily for that purpose). We have never used any of them and we primarily send some of small-business-forum.com, workz and a few others as well as our site.

Does the duplicate content penalty come into play here any? Or can we safely send articles to those article sites?

    Thanks!

I am about to submit to 200 article sites with an article about my seo contest website.

The article will have a unique phrase so I can track how well google picks up the articles.

I will be blogging about the results over the next few months.

But what about the duplicate content? Does Google (any search engine) take that into consideration? Does it look at the date to possibly determine the owner and give the owner "ranking privilege"?

Great idea. I'd love to see the results of that when it comes out. Other than a few article sites, I have doubts about how many are spidered and how many have been banned due to duplicate content.

There no "penalty" as such IMO. I have seen the same article showing up in the SERPs from different domains quite often. Depends on how the article is being used by the site. Splitting up one article into fragments and using them in several pages in the site gives you the best result.

Highly unlikely. Most high PR sites gets frequently crawled by bots. If your article were to be published in one such site, then it will get crawled faster then the same article page on your site, so search engines would have to take the high PR site as the owner of the article!

Interesting topicalone. So it might be better off submitting to lower ranking sites?

As far as I knowm there are no penalties. In fact if you submit your articles to several Article Directories, you have a pretty good chance of getting free traffic from the SE's. Most probably a high PR article directory having your article will rank high for the keywords in the article, and as it will have your resource box at the bottom, you have a good chnace of getting free traffic.

I have found article writing and submitting articles the BEST thing, so far, for free traffic increases and sales and to help raise my site(s) SER and PR.

I used to submit each article to what folks listed here as mostly the top 5 sites, then I went to 10. Now I actualy submit each article to 50 sites, all by hand. It actualy doesn't take more than 2 - 3 hours of steady work and I enjoy it, gives me something to do when I am home and not at the real job scrubbing and waxing floors.

I used to follow the others thinking that you only need to submit to the top 3 or 5 sites, but for me I clearly see more traffic when I submit to some lesser known article sites also. As my brother once said, his wife was using a search engine called 'black widow' all the time, and rarely uses google or any others. New folks on coming on the net all the time, and even old timers are just finding article sites for content, and if they find one site that isn't a top named site or has a PR of 1, to them, they may love that site and only use it.

So you have a LOT more success submitting each article to as many sites as you enjoy submitting to, I believe. :)

I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to marketing stuff although been in the internet development business for over 6 years. Any chance you can provide some links where you post these articles?

It's for an online store of mine

I personally run an article submittal business where we target about 140 different sites for inclusions. Over the past few months the feedback from clients has been positive. Like yourself, and MYSELF, I've been worried about the duplicate content penalty. For as much as anyone knows, there hasn't been concrete evidence of it and google really hasn't said so much about it to give us any clues.

That being said, the most important thing in my eyes about article inclusion is the ability to have your copytext AND links to reach the greater public wherever they may be. Who knows who will pick up your content to use on their site. That's my view of it. I would just hope that they keep your bylines and links intact.

As an example of a more recent article submittal, we did this one for a client.

Enter "Reasons Why the Current Real Estate Boom Is Far From Over" into msn and google to see how well a $10 marketing endeavor worked :)

What service did you provide for $10 for this client? It seems to have worked well.

Article submission service. I was running a special at the start of the year. We'll probably be doing one during Valentine's day, but right now we're at our normal price of $25/article. Currently we're submitting to 140 sites.

If your articles are good enough, they will be picked up by many good content sites. Two client sites I've been working, the predicated homepage PR went from PR5 to PR7 with five articles each. The PR of some of the article pages picked up by content sites are predicated to be PR6, PR5, and PR4.

    Interesting fact.

Should we understand that you published 5 articles in article directories and you did absolutely nothing else beside writing good articles ?

I ran a quick statistics on articles published in first class article directories. I noticed that most articles do not get picked-up by other sites except for scraping (I excluded the most mediocre articles)

I suspect those who have been picked up have approached content web sites directly to get published.

I submitted the articles only to articlealley, goarticles and ezinearticles. That's all, and I didn't approach content websites. I did spend a few hours on each of those 500 word articles. They're picked up 'cause the original thoughts, not necessarily good writing. I'm not a writer.
