For a new website, what's better: to do it early on when the content is not fully in place yet (i.e. more content is coming soon) to get a head start or wait a few weeks until the full content is in place?

Search engines doesn't like websites without content. It will be better to full the site and then submit it.

Here's a little different opinion. Having a site completed before starting the submissions is definitely a good idea. However, if content writing is going to take some time, have some relevant contents and a little declaration which says that your site will be live soon with full fledge information on your subject and submit it to all the search engines so that your site gets indexed in appropriate manner in all the search engines.

Finally when your site is ready with full contents, your site will also be indexed with search engines. In next visit search engine robots will find new contents and they like this type of changes, right?

I hope you agree with this too! Opinion are always welcome as we all learn with our differences in opinions.

I personally feel that you should wait until you sites has more or specific content which is useful for some user as to submit at this stage would not be a good idea...

You must put contents first before link building.. By the way don't waste your time submitting to SEs.. If your site are link to already crawled site surely it will be crawled...

Put at least a few pages up, even if you arent sure what the final product would be.

Its better to let a domain sit there with afew inward links than have a domain completely empty.

I guess one of the issues is that if visitors find your site and it is void of content, they will never come back. On the other hand getting all of the ideas and content implemented might take a while. I am leaning towards a balanced approach. Having some content first, then submitting the site and filling in the rest. Got to get the ball rolling. This will also serve as a good motivation to add content to existing project, rather than something that is not even truely live yet.
