My boss (without consulting with me first) just spent $250 on this service. It looks like one of those scams that claims to submit to 1500 search engines when, in fact, 99% of these "search engines" are actually FFA link pages. I don't have the heart to tell him that it's a scam.

Looks like a scam to me.

Google only reports 12 links to their site - maybe they should work on submitting their own site before they try and rob the Internet public, lol.

Well, even if this service submits your site to 1500 search engines, about 1490 of them will give you zero traffic. So, yes, a big mistake, which can be harmful if the site has been submitted to spammy FFA link pages.

Mistake yes, but harmful no (besides being out the $). You won't be penalized becuase of other sites that link to you. If you could be, we would all just submit our competition to every link farm and porn directory we could.

Hmm... I didn't know that. I think I've heard of "bad site neighborhoods". Looks like I was hanging around in the wrong Forums after all. It all makes sense how you say it. :)

I agree that there are "bad neighborhoods" you don't want to link to, but don't think they can hurt your site by linking to you. If they could the "bad neighborhood" sites could literally extort sites - "pay us or we will link to you".

:p Yeah, that's right. But in the Forums I was, people were afraid that google would see such links as spamming (adding your link to FFA pages would be your site trying to spam). But that doesn't make sense. It's just that I was left with that impression. Google is not god! :D

You've got to have the "human touch" on your site and SEO campaign in order for it to be a success in 99.99% of the cases.
