    The X Files, hello,

I suggest you work on your grammar and writing skills first.

    Believe me,

original content is almost a causa perduta when that old, plain, grammatically correct English fails you.

And I would like to ask you to excuse me if I sound somehow offensive. I am trying to be helpful in some way.

Have the best of your day.[IMG]

Kind offer and not usual in an articles directory, however I must agree with turbulence.

You have a great idea in mind, just work a little bit improving your writing skills to round it ;)

In the hope that something good will eventually come out of this thread, I will attempt to answer the question.

Copywriting can be defined as the writing act aimed at generating direct sales or raise brand awareness. This is how traditional copywriting is defined anyway. In online marketing the distinction between the two purposes is quite often blurred as the "flattening" effect appears. More exactly an ad can initially serve to raise brand awareness, but once it is clicked it can be considered as a sales generating lead.

With the capabilities of the online world, this definition is far from complete. The copy aimed to attract affiliates can be considered as copywriting, so a broader definition of this craft can be: any text that presents a call to the reader to make an action which will ultimately result in a sale.

I enjoy a good debate, so if you don't agree with my points, go ahead and prove me wrong.

    Regards, George

    George,

I am glad we both share the same intention in this topic - to get it fruitful after all.

Well, I see very clearly what you mean by copywriting and obviously you've expressed my thoughts by your clarification of what copywriting in the web is like.

However, I still don't see why articles are not copywriting work. You say: "Any text that presents a call to the reader to make an action which will ultimately result in a sale." is a piece of copywriting.

Articles may perfectly serve as attention teasers and sales provokers, don't we share same thoughts here?

Obviously at some point there is a blurred line of distinction between content writing and copywriting. And example would be the reviews: they are technically content writing, but they also serve as a promotion tool. Copywriting and content writing are still distinguishable though, as the first one aims to alter the visitor's behavior, while the second only aims to provide information.

In your remark, I figure that you were talking about articles meant for article directory distribution. These are texts that contain both content writing and copywriting, but the two of them can be easily distinguished from each other. The main body of the article is considered content writing stricto sensu, while the resource box is obviously a piece of copywriting.

In conclusion, although the two types of writing tend to overlap at times, they are still two very distinct categories.

    Best regards, George

    Hi again, Geegle,[IMG]

Thanks a ton for your clarification.

Yes, I support completely your understanding of copywriting and content writing to be quite different in their nature. Obviously, we wanted to say one and the same thing, because I really had these specific articles (aimed at article directories) as examples of my idea. I think our slight misunderstanding is now cleared.;)

    All the best to you,

    Turbulence
