I had a friend who submitted my old website into hundreds of directories within minutes, I can't contact that person since I lost touch with him, but does anyone have a clue how he could of done it, also he did it free of charge if that helps, thanks.

If you subscribe to those automated tool, submission within minutes is possible. But submission does not equal to approval link back, especially for those free listing it could take longer time to approve.

I think he was using any automation tool to submit sites in directories, as per SEO norms do not use any software to promote your website...

No decent directory allows automated submissions. Why would you want to be listed in a bunch of link farms?

there's plenty of software and websites that let you do this, just google it. the links are not worth much value tho.

You can do that by using a directory submitter tool. There are several tools that you can use in submitting your website to hundreds of directories. But this is not advisable because it might submit your site to bad directory websites and might hurt your site. In Google Webmaster Guidelines, stated that linking to bad neighborhoods will eventually hurt your site.

directorymaximizer is pretty safe and inexpensive. your site will get added to directories manually over time. It's been good for me as I don't have time to do the directory submitting.

i use only manual submission... because i don't want to banned my site from google...
    maximum 100 submission/day,and all is ok ;)
I also reccomended to post comments on different websites, but no spam... Are very good for optimization
