Its not. If people do it, they are new to seo and get the wrong information. Just to add some help. I have a site which I earn quite well off. Its high in google, but I have never had a single hit from any other search engine. Not even yahoo. People just don't use other search engines much. I don't even think I've ever used live.com

that was suggested back at the top of the post. as already said search engine submission is a thing of the past. a lot of newbies get it confused with search engine ranking.
Nobody needs submiting in search engine. Directory and search engine are two different things. Search engines have bots, which are searching for websites in indexed directories, portals and many other things. Submiting your site in search engines is making indexing of your website easier and faster for the bots, but in all ways your website will be submited to search engines.
submit your site(s) to google, msn and yahoo. they are the best ..... with a little seo you will get the best listing (if out there are not much competitors for your keyword) P.S: i don`t recommand to use autosubmitters, do the job manualy ! Cheers
