Is it necessary to submit the site in other search engines and directories when it has been submitted in major search engines and directory like google and dmoz?

Not really. They should pick up on it - if not, the traffic you get from the big 3 will dwarf ANY traffic from smaller engines.

more backlinks you get, much better position in major search engine you are...
google for instance also looks at the popularity/backlinks of your site. when many site backlink to your site, google thinks that your site is important. so you will get a better position in search ranking.

^ this one is right! but you have to limit your directory submission or you will be banned.

Also think it is difficult for newbies to distinguish between good directories and link farms.

Link farms are very shady and more likely to get you banned in the search engines. Although it is difficult to distinguish, it is easy to find good rep directories specific to your niche, which would earn better quality traffic, although minimal can help in those ever important backlinks.

    Just my 2 cents!

Can you really be banned for too many directory submissions? I thought those were safe.

I don't really think so..... I may be wrong but I've done directory submissions and they only helped. I think (as a previous poster just stated) that if you can't distinguish between link farms and good directories, and have links to your site from a LOT of untrusted domains.... that could be an issue. Could.

    Theres no search engine submissions

    You need submissions to directorys
    To articles directorys
And links to get good rankings and get crawled
