When website is submitted in major search engines like google, yahoo and msn, is it relevant to submit it in other small search engines and directories.

I have heard this many times that a website need not have to submit their website to a search engines, because they will be found if they are online, and i find this to be true time and time again. I think a quality directories is where the motive should start and link exchanging with semilar websites.

A website won't be found by the search engines unless it has a few links to it from other sites which are also in the engines. Submitting to directories is a good way to get some of these vital first links.
