Submission to directories bad?

I heard that submission to directories is bad for google rankings nowadays. Is it true?
A year or two ago it was a step that you shouldn't skip.

Submission to link directories is not bad if you are submitting one way link to free web directory.But If you are placing a lot of reciprocal links of web directories on your site then you may rank lower in Google search engine results as compared to other.Do few link exchange to relative sites only.

 

I think one way directory links are very good for google ranking
