    Ultimately you should do the homework to find the best category, by searching through categories and looking for similar sites to yours. The more time you spend on this, the more likely you are to get in the "right" category. Failure to do this, will for sure cause delays while editors move your site around.

    First search DMOZ for various phrases and look at the categories that come up. Then look at those categories, look at the sites that are in them and look at the the category description.

    Learn the difference between the top level categories - Most likely you will want a Business category.

    e.g a search for performance based marketing

    gets

    # Business: Marketing and Advertising: Direct Marketing (1 match)
    # Computers: Multimedia: Digital Video: Services (1)
    # Business: Marketing and Advertising: Internet Marketing: Marketing Services (1)
    # Business: Management: Consulting: A (1)
    # Computers: Software: Marketing: Sales and Marketing Productivity (1)

    Business: Marketing and Advertising: Direct Marketing for example has a description
