What happens at the top when we get people do similar things they are placed into a "Long Wait que" and generaly fed rubbish if anything at all, just a game for the people at the top. ever heard these lines. "yep looking into now" = go away can't be bothered " it's next on my list " = its not going to happen etc etc the best approach is to continue polite dialog between the people who can give the answers, this approach = the above lines and probably means you will wait ages if ever now for a suitable outcome.
I'm not sure about the lots of time and efforts part unless you have hundreds of paid submissions a day (In which case you can afford staff) then it should not take more than a few moments to answer a customer queries. I did not quote the rest of your post as i thoroughly agree with it great objective post. Thanks! This is possible i hadn't even thought of this. Wait! The reason i didn't come up with this is because i'm not one to insult people You are quite right about BOTW i have heard of their tight standards which is quite a daunting aspect for anyone. I would agree but i have a knack for knowing when someone is not willing to communicate with you such as when they throw you a cut and paste from their guidelines. Actually i feel it warranted a discussion as i have rarely seen the subject of "pr with rejected submissions" discussed at dp. My recent rejection at dirjournal gave me a base to discuss from.
First of all can you mention or PM me the URL of your site as I am unable to find it in above discussion anywhere, as a directory owner I am curious to have a look on your site. Secondly, there are many submitters each day submit in other PR6 or PR7 directories (e.g. BOTW, Yahoo Dir etc...) and they get rejection email for some reason. Question is: Should they start thread in Directories area of forums complaining about the directory service? If BOTW.org gave reason to the submitter for non-inclusion of your site, so at the same time they don't refund you the money. If the owner of DirJournal has made refund to you then what is the question to complain? If in the past other paid directories are in experience of approving paid links only as submitter has paid for their listings, so those paid directories were being penalized already.
It shouldn't be too hard to reply with a reason. If the submitter thinks he/she followed all guidelines, of course he will ask for the reason. That's normal.
mrcrowley, if you were paying that much to me and i rejected your submission i would give you a full explanation as to why you were rejected and if it was just a case of a few things needing to be discussed and changed i would do that too. Even if the correspondance was over a few days if neccessary. If i dont explain why you were rejected then your unable to make any neccessary changes. I think a email template is ok for some cases but for others it can be a good idea to address a matter individually.
I sympathise with the OP. I had some links removed from Aviva and refunded, but I only found out about the removal from my PP account. I did pm the owner who replied in a generic manner that reviewing guidelines had changed, or something similar. I would have liked an email before the refund explaining what was happening, it would have given me a better customer experience. However I did not pursue the matter, I knew the weaknesses of my sites and admired Aviva for putting editorial integrity before $$$'s.
A rejection email just tells me he's not grabbing money and cares about the directories integrity which is a good . That's a good thing. If your site got rejected work on it and resubmit.
Lol where did haxan go ? Haxan Last Activity: Oct 24th 2007 did he have a heart attack after he saw that his directory has gone pr7 ? , just kidding, but its clear that he must be very busy, give it time am sure he will explain to you why he rejected the website when he comes back. Peace.
First of all - the directory owner should have the right to give you an explaination why you're site was rejected and if it is possible to be accepted in the future once you complied with their guidelines. Now, as my customers I will be more than happy to take a few minutes and explain to you why you failed to be accepted and "help" you see what's wrong with your site. I'm very customer friendly and I know that "worth of mouth" is a lot better to get more satisfied current/future customers. I practice this philosophy "Take care of your customers and they will take care of You" But you know not all us see the world in the same light and we have to move on. Just consider this as another road block on your way to your success. It is something directory owners should consider when rejecting a submission. It's a just nice jesture and improve your reputation as "top quality directory", otherwise you're in the same boat with the others. Details such as this will be the difference and create an atmosphere of respect for what your plan to create with your directory. Now let's go back to the site in question. I keep saying the same thing over and over, but no one has been able to come up with an asnwer 1. How do I know if my site would be rejected or not before I even waste my time submitting? It will really help to know this , it will save the submitter and directory owner time and money. 2. Until now I have not seen a single directory (here at dp) that has set of concrete guidelines that when you go through all of them you will know if your site qualifies or not. This thing of "quality listing" is a myth, until you are able to answer the above statements. So far almost if not all submissions are accepted based on biased assumption. Please be able to come up with an unbiased or process that will create a concrete proof to give to you customers why their site was rejected. I will take "quality listing" on another day, but for now this should be enough.
Well you can always submit to my directories (in signature) and if its good of course it will be accepted Anyway, the point is that it is DirJournal's perogative to accept or reject sites even if you have paid for it, one of my directories was removed from Apahcinc recently and although I got a vague answer as to the reason why, I respect their decision.
It was good your site was rejected. The home page of dirjournal may be pr7 but this site is not properly optimized as more than 95% pages in the directory have gone into supplemental results. This is not a seo friendly directory and google will not a count a link from it.
Maybe I'm missing something. Here's what happened: You submitted a site to a directory. You got rejected. That's it! It happens every day all around the internet. Now, if they kept your money, maybe you could get angry, or demand a reason. But they didn't keep your money. They gave it back. They owe you nothing. If they run a business, they probably don't want to give free reviews to websites. Other directories might give you feedback, but they keep your money. If you don't get accepted, this money is "paying" for the information they have.
I have to agree with Carboncat, they probably don't want to give free reviews to websites: it takes time, and there could well be more than one reason they didn't accept the site. I don't think it reflects badly on Dirjournal. The best thing to do would be to post the website up for a review in the appropriate forum. And/or get some of your friends to give you some honest feedback on the website.
ok, as a previous owner and currently a submitter, I would have to agree with the OP. A directory is supposed to review every listing. Whether they refund or not should not even be put in discussion. If they review and rejected, then there is a reason. They can reply with a quote of submission terms plus tell that they don't care if you create a thread, yet why can't they just tell the reason?? I mean you bothered replying right? "Your site lacks content." or "Your site's design isn't up to the directory's standards" is easier to type than a quote and telling a site owner that you don't care if they start a thread in DP. We all know it takes time. Hey, if you don't have the time, then maybe it's time to quit (like I did a year ago hehe).
You could always insist on submitting only to directories who habitually issue a review report to their clients, but you might find that there are very few of them
I’m sorry to say this but I feel that this post helps the reputation of the owner of dirjournal.com, it’s nice to know that quality of his directory comes before $$. If your directory gets lots of submission that don’t meet the owner high standard, it could take lots of unpaid time providing a reason, I sometimes take the time to explain why I rejected a site but only if it’s something small that the submitter can put right (Maybe a couple of missing images or something like that) Just my view. Thanks Brian
To be honest i dont mind spending the unpaid time on something, often the effort put into something where there will be no pay at first can lead to a lot of good business shortly aftwards. Its not always what their site can do for your directory but what you can do for them even after returning their funds. Extra time spent and favours are rarely forgotten.
