Can somebody please help? Does having subfolders on a homepage have any affect on a websites SEO?

For example, if the homepage is keyword.com/content/keyword-home and the other pages are keyword.com/content/keyword-two, and so on.

If having a subfolder such as the content example above is a bad thing, can somebody please explain how to remove it so the homepage is simply keyword.com?

I was told that because of the hosting package (1and1), and becuase the site was made using active server pages, the home page needs to have a name?

As you can probably guess I am very new to this and did not build the website myself so would very much appreciate some advice.

    Thanks in advance.

So am I right in thinking then that having all of the pages through a subfolder doesn't make any difference to SEO? e.g. homepage.com/content/index.aspx

If all of the urls have the content subfolder, would it be best to replace the index part of the homepage with a relevant keyword?? e.g. homepage.com/content/keyword.aspx
