Subdomains still working well in Google and MSN?

I recently came across this article: http://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-and-msn-loving-subdomains-seo/3514/. I noticed the article is a bit out dated and trying to find out if Subdomain is still holding its positions in Google and MSN. My question is would it be a good idea for me to leverage my good domain for search benefit by creating a subdomain for your target terms?

I would stay away from making sub-domains for individual terms.

    keyword1.mydomain.com
    keyword2.mydomain.com
    keyword3.mydomain.com

    you are better off using

    mydomain.com/keyword1.html
    mydomain.com/keyword2.html
    mydomain.com/keyword3.html

Thanks Sundevil. Is there any reason for not using sub domains?
