I think Google treat sub domains as separate domains from the main domain. So What I have seen is index page count is different in each sub domain. I like to know how PR Juice apply for subdomains.

I think it depends on the actual content and purpose of what's in the section. Forums are good to have as sub-domains, while blogs are good in sub-folders.

It depends on the size of the site. Subdomains for huge sites with a lot of content in different topics, and folder design for smaller sites.

Subdomains are considered as new website and you need to take the same pain in pushing the new domain with SEO. While a subfolder is the best option to go as it adds value to your main domain and also is treated as one.

IMO, sub domain is better than folders... bots concentrate more on root directory not in sub folders!

G def. treats folders different then subdomains. Subdomains are considered a separate site, and folders part of the same root URL and authority.

Yes, subdomain is treated as new domain .
It will enrich the content and broaden the content of the domain. It is good for the site and spiders like it.

The question might be more usefully asked like this: Which is better for my particular purpose?

Sub-domains give you the ability to include an otherwise impossible to get keyword phrase. For example, the domain seo dot com is probably either not for sale, or too expensive to buy. But seo dot yoursite dot com can be had any time you want it.

This allows you to include the domain along with everything else when focusing your SEO activity on a popular keyword phrase.

Folders can be more useful when you're looking to build the PageRank of a particular page on the site - especially the homepage. Internal links are taken into account, but they won't be internal if the pages appear as part of a sub domain.

So it comes down to what's most important to you in the long term. Whatever that is, that's what ought to inform your decision.

Personally I feel folders are much better than sub domains, as ub domains are essentially a whole new site.

    Of course subdomains...
Subdomains can be submited to large number of directories, portals and so on and make some linkbuilding to them, while folders cannot

The best way to approach the sub-domain vs sub-directory issue is to evaluate your current position.

If you are just starting your website, then I would highly recommend that you use sub-directories to help give your main domain some authority. By using sub-directories you are increasing the size of your primary domain. Think of it like filling a cup with water. Once your cup has reached the top, then it may be time to pour some of that into some sub-domains.

Your sub-domains will be extensions from your primary site. If your primary site has good PR and authority, then your sub-domains will inherit that PR and authority. The flipside of that is if you build too many sub-domains in the beginning, it will be like spreading not enough butter over a large piece of bread.

    Hope that helps! :)
