Subdomains - do they have to go through the sandbox?

    Hi,

    I wanted to know if anyone knows if subdomains also go in the sandbox when they're created or is the sandbox only relevant to the top level domain?

    for instance, if example.com is out of the sandbox and I created subdomain.example.com - will it also be out of the sandbox or will it take time just like a new domain?

    Im farily sure in saying it isnt sandboxed - I use dozens of subdomains and they get listed in the main index in a day or so.

    If your main domain is in sandbox then I am sure your all sub-domains are also in Sandbox

    Obviously...

    The question is what happens if your domain is out of the sandbox and you create a new subdomain.

    Good question. I have a very well ranking site. If I add subdomains, will they automatically avoid the sandbox, or even "drag down" the existing well ranking domain?:rolleyes:

    I think being a part of the main domain, the subdomains are not caught in the sandbox.

    Subpages/Subdirectories -> No sandbox
    Subdomains -> Sandbox

    Easy example: Take a low to medium competitive keyword/keyphrase. Create a blog on blogger or wordpress.com (subdomain name = key), throw links on it and it will rank high for a few days before getting buried for quite a time. Do the same with a subpage on squidoo or hubpages (directory name = key) and you'll see them
    rank very stable.

    Sandboxed sudomains never hurt the main domains SERPs, no dragging down.

    The answer is YES. Subdomains are treated as SITES not pages, and go into the sandbox. And the sandbox for subdomains is sometimes longer than the one for the original site (in my experience).

    However, this should not discourage you from using subdomains. They have a few cons, but overall subdomains are GOOD.
