If a subdomain gets banned from google is the whole domain banned, or how does that work?

if thats true, then blogspot.com will be the first one to get banned.

many web hosts give sub-domains for free, banning sub domains will be disastrous.

As far as I know Sub Domains can be banned, But banning of subdomains will not affect main domains.

    !!! Enjoy !!!

Im sure ive read that if your host your site on "bad" servers i.e. servers which also hosts lots of spam sites then this can affect your rankings. If this is so then maybe subdomain can affect the main domain. However the official policy is that subdomains are treated completely seperately.

I do not see any sence in that. If for example my site something.netfirms.com get banned from google I don't see any reason why google should ban netfirms.com.

Even if you think subdomain ban does not affect the domain itself, would you push it and risk getting your subdomain (or potentially the entire domain) banned?

In my opinion, unless the subdomains are set up as user accounts, the subdomain ban may affect the main domain. I bet Google will ban/devalue the domain whose subdomains repeatedly spam, violate AdSense TOS, etc.

I did not imply AS ban per se. All I said was bad standing with AS on any of your sub-domains may potentially inadvertedly affect your entire site's ranking/deindexing...etc.

Is any of your subdomains banned (or seems to be banned)? If so, how old is the subdomain?
