When adding a new section (such as a blog) to an existing, high-PR website, is it better to add the new section as a subdirectory or as a subdomain?

Which taxonomy insures that the new section gets the maximum benefit of the underlying websites PR?

    www.domain.com/newsection

    OR

    newsection.domain.com

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Subdomain are considered as Top Level Domain. Its better if you go for Subdomain. Only problem with subdirectory and subdomain is that its difficult to get backlinks to these pages as its considered as deep linking.
here is the li of deeplinking directories for you.
