Simple question really, Does a sub domain have equal chance of ranking in search engines as a regular domain. Example. Would: freevideos.com rank equaly against a sub domain of free.videos.com
They would be both treated equally if the 2 options were setup online on the same day, as they are both new sites. Either option could rank very well it would all depend on utilsing effective seo.
You must understand one thing, Google considers a sub-domain to be a seperate site from the main domain name. You can see a perfect example on CNN.com, they use the URL for CNN Money as money.cnn.com, this is also designed as a completely seperate site from CNN.com. Basicly what your asking doesn't really have an answer. Your best bet would be to use a solid domain name and then use sub-domains to make different sites. Below is a good example of a structure using a humor site. www.funnystuff.com - Main Humor Portal pictures.funnystuff.com - Funny Pictures videos.funnystuff.com - Funny Videos cartoons.funnystuff.com - Funny Cartoons This allows you to work on main keywords on different sub-domains and will help get you results faster. This is due to the fact each keyword will be different competiton wise. Your goal would be to build directly related backlinks to each sub domain.
I think that this poin influence on the SERP, but not as much as others ones (I mean backlinks relevant contant etc )
