    Hi.

I have a blog www.thecatzine.com, basically it is about cat, and it is at PR2 now. I plan to make another related site, but for only cat video. I do not want to mix it up with the main domain.

So i was wondering, since it is relate topic, should i go for sub domain or sub directories?

    http://catvideo.thecatzine.com

    or

    http://www.thecatzine.com/catvideo

From what i understand, if i want the new site to feel the PR love, i should go for sub directories (http://www.thecatzine.com/catvideo). And since it is related in the same topic, i should do for sub directories. Unless, if the topic is different, like maybe dogvideo, then it should be subdomain.

So is that fact right? Or I can also have subdomain to feel some PR Love from the main domain?

What do you think, if i related this sub domain and sub directories to SEO.

For what it's worth I've had more luck getting ranked with a sub-directory on MSN anyway. Both the domain and subdomain got ranked seperately #1 and #2 for the main keyword and the sub-domain #1 for the derivative of the keyword. Maybe it's just luck, but I'm not gonna touch it to try and satisfy Google.

Go for a sub directory as the content is related to same topic "cats". Using a sub domain is better for different topics.

PR depends on the way you have linked your pages. It won't make any difference if u r using a sub directory or a subdomain.
The pages which will get more internal links from high PR pages tend to have higher PRs.

If you are to go with same theme website then you should go with subfolder(directory) in your hosting.
If your topic is not related to previous website and you are not willing to purchase new domain then you can start your new website at sub domain and when you think it is not better to run website at subdomain then you should make whole website with 301 redirection. Your whole website value will transfer at your new domain in 1 or 2 months.

Well if you want to follow what search engines say, sub directory should be the option you should considers. The video section belongs to the same theme as the present site. Forget about PR, having the new section in subdirectory will help you capitalize on the authority of the main domain. Should you opt for a sub domain, it would be like starting from the scratch.
