Stuttering and sound looping on my PC

Several days ago I've experienced certain problem with my PC.
After a few hours it happens that my PC starts to stutter or even freeze for a minute.
I can move my cursor sometimes but it takes forever for applications to respond when I click inside them.
Sometimes sounds starts to loop but soon it stops, but everything else remains frozen or stutters while I try to do something.
This happens 2-3 times a day and lasts only a minute.
After that everything goes back to normal.
So did anyone have a similar problem with his PC and what should I do?

I have 2GB RAM and W7 and I've never experienced this type of problem before.

One of the hardware device in your PC is probably malfunctioning. I had the same problem few days back and it was my LAN card which was the culprit! :(

Dunno, I'm suspecting that it might be software issue as well. It seems that Google Chrome is taking too much memory as well as svchost.exe and perhaps there's a memory leak that causes all of this, or maybe I should just have a complete reinstall of my OS. :)
