stupid mistakes that i made when starting with adsense.

As a newbie I filled most of my blogs with as many ads as possible - I started with a wide skyscraper on side, a leaderboard on bottom, wide rectangle on top and 5 links on side. I wanted to give more choices to my readers (as if they were here only to see ads).

Well that was not enough so I posted google adsense, firefox and google adwords referral buttons too. I had some amazon referral links for the books on the bottom.

You can all guess what was my earning!

I understand your logic but web readers have become accustomed to pages overfilled with data. I don't think the ads turn them off unless they are savvy users and can read, or infer the intention to over monetise.

I don't think it's that big a deal to stock your page to the brim. The only real negative in my opinion is the aesthetics of the page/site.

Isn't it against the TOS to ask viewers to click on your referral links? If not, I'm doing it today! :p

I think it's against the Google TOS.

Anyways, my biggest mistake when I first started AdSense was placing the ads on every page. Not knowing about channels, I quickly learned that I could make channels and had to go back and fixed all the coding.

do you really feel that putting up ads on blogs does provide quality traffic, 99.9% of times people are not intrested in clicking those ads.

by the way why don't you expose your self that dispite of all these efforts of creating an outstanding blog are you in + or in - with it. where do you stand in terms of fetch the cash out of it.

post the reply fast, i would really like to know the answer to this.

yes you are right, suggesting a browser is one thing, but asking someone to use their referral if they want to help the site is totally different.

JackSmith, welcome to the wonderful world of blogging. Focus on quality content. Go easy on the ads. If you build a large and regular audience, you can be sure a few clicks here and there on highly relevant ads will happen (highly relevant ads will only appear on about 1 in every 3 - 4 well written articles but that's the nature of Google Adsense).

Maybe I'm missing something. Do channels serve a purpose other than simply allowing you to see which pages and ad blocks are most popular?

though some ppl (specially someone selling a ebook) claims that they have a way to get keyword related info from channels but i don't think its more then just guess work. For example I got 2$ from a single click from one of my blogs. and since i hadn't updated it from sometime so i was pretty sure what kind of ad might have earned me that money just by knowing the ad-block from channel.
Rest as they say , is history.
