Stupid bots

    iv been having some trouble with bots posting on my forum...any ideas of how to keep the bots away???...it gets annoying deleting all their posts by hand

    You should do one of the following:

    1) Install a capcha (Image user has to enter to register)
    2) E-mail verification (User has to click link in their email to activate their account)

    This would stop the automated bots from attacking your site, also make something like a 25 second delay before user can make another post.

    im using XMB forum...thx for the idea for the capcha, but i already have email verification and they still get through that :-(...but i will try the capcha as well

    Capcha while register and email verification are not resolved. They can register and verification by hands and use script to post. :D

    My forum had this problem and I detected that all spam bot from East Europe (Russia, Hungary, Czech...)
    Ban all those country
    http://blockacountry.com
    Choose the countries want to block and submit to get IP ranger. Add to ban IP from AdminCP or .htaccess

    Personally Ive blocked out china and russia totally in the firewall
    alternativly in addition to other things mentiuoned take a look at

    I also use BadBehavior - it stops the bots before they even 'see' your site..
