StumbleUpon, Twitter, MyBlogLog...

What do YOU use to network with other bloggers, and promote your content? Networking and establishing relationships is essential, and if you're not doing it, then you'd better start. Commenting, emailing, and networking over social media sites is the one of the best things you can do to build your community, so which do you use, what is your favorite, and why?

[Also see WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SOCIAL MEDIA SITE?]

And, if you're interested in networking on any of said sites, to build relationships as bloggers (if you don't understand why it's important to build relationships in the blogosphere, please ask and I'll delve into more detail), just let me know. You can follow me on Twitter, join my blog's MBL community, or add me on StumbleUpon or Digg.

Networking is essential so you have people that'll help you when you get in a fix, read what you write, link to you, recommend you to others, and especially vote and recommend your content on social media sites, getting you a lot of traffic. What are you waiting for? What do you use to network, and if you don't, why not? :)

Well I would recommend ma.gnolia for bookmarking, StumbleUpon for finding new contacts and maybe BumpZee and Sphinn for the make money online, seo and blogging niche. I think you should consentrate on 2 maximum 3 sites and build your network there. When you "submit" to all the bookmarking site, use SU only for traffic for example that will not help you. You better be an active contributor on 1 community then be an inactive and forigner in 10. :)

Wolfolus, I agree with you. Building up your communities in primarily a few sites is better than being hardly known at all in a dozen. I take the few minutes or so out of a day to submit my best content to all the major ones, but there are a few sites I'm really working at building my community and networking on. I already have several blogging contacts, and we read each other's sites on a daily basis and vote for content via social media, but I'm interested in continuing to network even more on some certain sites.

I like StumbleUpon - it's my favorite. But I've also gotten some great results from building a community at MyBlogLog, and I've just started using Twitter to interact with blogging friends and establish things more on a personal level, to help gain trust and readers. BloggingZoom.com is also a favorite of mine. :)

What I don't understand is how to people have the time and memory to do all this online networking? I've got things to do, and real people to hang out with, and when I get time to compute all I can do is work on sites and pages and blogs. How do people keep track of all this "social networking"? Do you make notes in a Word file or something to remember what you said to who?

And I want to like StumbleUpon but suddenly I'm barred from Stumbling certain pages - not just on my own sites, but some others too. The weird thing is most are ok; it's strange but has forced my to look for alternatives like EntreCard.

I'm curious about Twitter, having seen people talk about it on DP. Thanks for the tips, SuperBlog! What do you think about guest blogging or post exchanging to supplement social networking sites?

For me it's not really hard at all to keep up with everything, because everything I've done is already in my account on those sites anyway. I consider social media and networking to be part of the blogging experience, because without it I wouldn't have as many contacts or blogging friends, and my site wouldn't hardly get as much traffic as it does. To me, networking is just as important. But then again, the importance of social media can sometimes depend on your niche too. It'll be more helpful for some sites over others.

The thing with StumbleUpon is strange. When you're "barred" from stumbling those pages, what error message does it give you? That's happened to me before, but only when StumbleUpon has banned a page from being stumbled for reasons such as trading stumbles or buying them via exchanges and such, which they deem as cheating.

As for guest blogging, I also think it's very important! By writing for other sites in your niche, you can reach a whole new audience, and it's very likely for a lot of people who read that guest post to become readers of your own blog as well. I made a goal for myself this year, actually, to try and guest blog once per month. By writing for other blogs like mine, I can find people who might be interested in reading my blog as well. It's definitely an excellent way to grow a readerbase. :)

Easy. Outsource it. I have had clients that leased employees from us to work some of the bigger social networking sites out there. Although when it comes to Twitter, I'm a n00b :D Follow me at Twitter: http://twitter.com/websitewriters

It doesn't give me any error message; it appears to be fine but the pages don't show up on my Favorites page. I stumbled (discovered) about 10 sites this morning, and maybe 3 (not in a row) didn't make it - one was from my blog, 2 were just regular pages. No link selling or trading going on.

I'd like to try guest blogging, thanks for your info. But how do you start that? Most blogs I go to don't even have a way to contact the owner.

Might be a good idea, outsourcing. If I register at Twitter I'll look you up. (I still haven't even been to their site, just seen the name here on DP).

That's pretty strange, and I'm not sure why it's doing that. If it doesn't give you an error message and acts like it goes through, I honestly don't know what the reason is. Do you think maybe it's just taking a while to update? That's the only thing I can think of.

As for guest blogging, it's pretty easy with the niche I'm in. Every site has a way to contact the owner and some even post occasionally looking for those to guest blog. However, it might be a little harder in your niche (assuming the site in your signature is yours?) It'd be pretty hard to do if there's no way to contact the people whose sites you'd like to write for. All I can say is, look for ones that have contact forms, comment sections, or any way to get in touch. You could also try asking people here at DP that are in your niche if they'll accept guest posters, but that probably wouldn't get as good results for you.

Maybe, but the inconsistent timing is what makes it confusing.

It's not the one in my signature, that site is ALL guest writers :)
I have a few different blogs spread out over a few unrelated niches. I'll look around for guest bloggers. I actually think Technorati is good for blog searching.

Oh, okay. Yes, I agree, Technorati is a great way to find blogs.

Are you interested in guest blogging on other sites, or having other people guest blog for yours?

Either would be fine with me (I write for someone or we exchange), though I would like to have editorial control over what someone else writes (for spelling and grammar, not content). Is there a meaningful difference in the two approaches?

The best place for social networking is MySpace because it's just so flexible in what your can do on there...

It's probably the only network where you can add code...

If you use Twitter, then you should sign up with Pownce... this is now open for registrations...

They are both pretty similar in what they offer, and it is easy enough to double post... both have different members.

Only marketers would sign up for both Pownce and Twitter ;)

I did have Twitter installed on one of my sites, but there was some strange problem with the flash widget that meant it only showed on certain browsers...

Still, there is a well-placed link that lets readers know about it...

Great tip for Pownce. Does it offer a Widget like Twitter does? So I can put it on my blog?

I mainly like guest posting on other blogs in my niche because it helps me reach a whole new audience that can become potential readers of my own site. Writing for someone else, especially blogs with a lot of readers and subscribers, can really increase your exposure and helps grow your site very quickly.

As for having people guest blog on my own site, that's fine too as long as they write something that's quality. I don't mind letting people write on my blog so they can get new readers and a backlink, because a great post deserves that at least. I open options for guest blogging whenever I have writer's block or need more content. But I'm like you, I like to look over what people write and tweak any little spelling or grammatical errors.

Exchanging guest posts is excellent as well, because you're being featured on another site AND getting extra content. Overall, I think any form of guest posting is good, but what you do just depends on your needs.

Thanks for sharing your information about Twitter and Pownce!

I've never actually used Myspace or Facebook to promote my own blog, or to make money online. If anyone has any advice for me on how to go about that, I'd appreciate it. I really use social media sites and occasionally social bookmarking sites, but I've never done much promotion with social networking. :)

I am a big fan of Digg and I'll always recommend it as a social bookmarking source as well as for gathering new networks since it's been highly used by different audiences just like they use Twitter as well. Outsourcing as well is a good idea to manage them and I would agree on that.

Quite agree with you, and also recommend that if you do not have the time to submit to all manually than you should hire someone.

They will submit and you can concentrate on building your circle and community.
