As of several days ago, I've been receiving a significant amount of traffic from Stumbleupon. That's great. I'm curious though - how long does this effect last? If it's short lived, why is that? From what I understand about Stumbleupon, its equivalent to surfing subject matter related sites. Am I missing a key concept(s)? Thanks for your help! Regards, Robert
StumbleUpon traffic can be long term.. I still see stumbles for specific webpages that were stumbled a few months back. PM me if you need more help on the topic..
It tends to last from a day or two to a week in my experience. If you change the page that's getting Stumbled, that seems to kill the traffic. ( I learned this after noticing I'd mis-spelled something. ) People are constantly discovering new URLs to Stumble, a lot of them blog posts, so I think there's a rotation.
It leads to a quick burst, wich most likely wears somewhat off (easy come easy go) but you will continue to get a steady stream of traffic through stumble, and theres always the change that more reviews will be made, or reviews by prominent stumblers - both factors that can lead to a dramatic surge of traffic.
The more people labels your site as favorites (in stumbleupon), the longer you can expect it to last.
I guess what I don't quite understand is how the site goes from being on heavy rotation to quieting down. What initiates the spike followed by the tapering - is there an algorithm at work that gives newer Stumbles greater visibility to Stumblers? Thanks for all the replies as well! Regards, Robert
These sites get new content all the time and push your content lower. People generally just go to the main page of a site.. click the newest stuff.. then leave. People don't repeatedly go back through archives to see the same thing. That's why it tapers off. You're content is only new for so long.
StumbleUpon is like a social bookmarking site that guarantees traffic if you are bookmarked. The more people that bookmark your site the more traffic you will get. The new discoveries get a huge boost because StumbleUpon want's to know if it is a good site. They send up to several hundreds of visitors in the first day or two to see what the ratio of people that bookmark it and those that don't. If you don't get a ton of bookmarks then you won't see much traffic after that. I also think the quality of the members that book mark you have something to do with your priority in the stumble rotation. I first experienced them in august when they sent me about 900 uniques in a day and got my (Flat file) game database erased. I reuploaded it and the next day the same thing happend. I later bought phpAS, but that is a different story.
Does stumbleupon also help in link building because generally when someone bookmarks a link it is added in that user's page as permanent backlink until he/she removes it?
It's usually short term for me, though I do sometimes have steady traffic. Depends on the site (for me at least).
Depends on the site, if there are users interested in your site, the site would receive more stumbles, giving more traffic for a long time.
StumbleUpon is great for non-PPC optimized sites, sites that have real content that is really interesting. It can generate traffic for extended periods of time.
If you want quick traffic on your Site, Stumble upon is very useful but I cannot determine that the traffic SU Brings is conduct a conversion.
Yeah it has been short term for me as well. Like 2 days of avg 120 uniques then tapers off. But you never know who will see it, so you could get lucky and the site could get huge. I Just launched a new site to help with getting your site stumbled as well as viewed by other sites. www.gangclick.com launched about an hour ago and looking for beta testers and feedback.
