I don't usually use stumbleupon to get traffic to my sites but recently one of my sites got traffic from there and i was worried about my adsense account so i e-mailed Adsense and they replied

    Question by me

    Reply from Adsense

does this response make any odds ?

i think it's ok as long as he didn't say that stumbleupon.com isn't legit traffic

did you guys e-mail adsense about stumbleupon.com before ?

i didn't, but they are clear, it's ok but they don't recommend it, me too don't recommend traffic exchange programs because they deliver low quality traffic

I think traffic exchange means just that. Stumble upon is not a traffic exchange it is a social network. A traffic exchange is a site that shows your page to other members. You know the ones auto surf and manual exchanges. If you get paid per view you would make money and no one is looking at the site.

Stumble upon is more like what is hot list. Members only click on a link if they want to see it. Yes some stumble on the sites but most look at members list and look for sites they might like.

I might be wrong but that is how i take it.

Stumbleupon has brought me a lot of visitors over the last 6 months, and though it makes for lower CTR-rates, adsense hasn't complained.

But we had another thread on here at one time where someone had heard from adsense about it. From google's perspective (the pattern of the users) it does look like traffic exchange. After all, most visitors will be off the site as fast as they got on it. Quite different from most other ways to get legitimate traffic. For small sites, that get little regular traffic, they do risk a google warning. But I have yet to hear of someone getting banned from adsense because of stumbleupon.
So all in all - don't worry about it. Stumbleupon gets an interested audience to your site, which is great.

Well, an active stumbler can promote their own website by thumbing up pages that are likely to be popular with the stumble-crowd. Do it too often and you risk the stumbles not getting counted though.

There are people who go one step beyond the above (guilty of that one myself) and get together to thumb up their friends pages. This goes beyond seeding the network to manipulating it - and that's not 'natural', IMO.

SU and other social network sites like digg is not a traffic exchange, you don't have any obligation to click other sites in order to get traffic. So I guess that's a natural traffic. I don't know if someone ever report a spam site, but they even provide "report spam" button.

Install their toolbar, thumb up your favorite sites, make some friends, stumble - be part of the community - and when you've got a few friends that are interested in the type of topic your site is on - thumb up the best pages on your site.

It's not the same as traffic exchange, but the surfer pattern is a lot LIKE traffic exchange. Since google only sees download stats from adsense, they could mistake the traffic for traffic-exchange.

Social networking traffics are OK with Google Adsense so stumbleupon is. I am using them from last1 and half years and everything is fine.

yes how can you prevent 100 people stumbling you ? And usually it is semi-targeted traffic ...at least I stubmle sites from particular category and not just something random....

I stumbled few of my sites. Hitherto, I don't get any traffic. But Adsense clarified the doubts about this traffic. Any how, Thanks!

I got an SU account and adsense account. However I have no traffic yet coming from SU to my blog. So what gives? Just enjoy blogging.
