Does anyone know of any stumbleupon clones? Basically sites that do the same thing.

It's one of the few social bookmarking sites that actually bring me traffic. I need traffic dammit! ;)

Now that I think about it... No I haven't, which is surprising because the site is gigantic. Although the toolbar software would be harder to clone than most cloned sites.

    Interesting indeed.
But how hard can it be to duplicate a toolbar application?

I was trying to find some for ages and could not find any. And then i realised... Why not make one myself? If only i had the money for all the coders/designers. I recon you can make quite a bit of money out of this if you are willing to take a risk with a chunky investment.

Yeah you can. Since it's the only of it's kind, you could probably make it a lot better. Right now they're very popular because it's the only site that does that.

That's the reason they did it as a toolbar because it is much harder to duplicate than if they did it as a website.

The only problem... its being overrun by spammers (Kinda like us and the freebie section...)

Even if there are some StumbleUpon clones (and I'm not aware of any) I highly doubt it they will have a 2 million user base ;)

I could get a good clone up to 2 million members in one or two years. Especially with stumbleupon already there you can spam on :D

interesting, I just finished a stumble project - traffic stumble is not consistent but it is targeted

I like stumble but it will only last a couple days then die off

but sites that are like stumble I do not know - I since others do not provide randomness like stumble does

Siteshuffle does look pretty close to it, and it uses a toolbar.
Anyone have any idea how one would create that toolbar application?

Do you think geo targeted stumbleupon could have success?
I mean stumbleupon with only french or german or spanish websites.

$2000 for quality job... you could find freelancers on foreign sites for $500, but it might take ages to complete, and be buggy.

I apologize if I am way off, these are just the statistics I have received in the past for other ideas I had of the sort. Figured I would give my input.

I honestly don't think it would be that hard to recreate a toolbar application like that. The theory is fairly simple, there's lots of toolbar applications out there, you could probably even get a good start by using Google Code Search. Or try searching for open source toolbar project... www.sourceforge.com might have a couple under web projects.

As for knowing of any? Sorry I don't that's the only one I've seen.

Im definitely interested in finding a clone script or having one made. If anyone finds out further details, please let me know. I'm going to look into it more myself, possibly see how much it would cost to have coded, but I dont really trust that whole process :( I've seen scripts with entire development teams that are buggy as hell, not sure if I trust a freelancer :)

Spammers or not, it gets alot of traffic which is very good. I know that if I owned it I would be making over $1 million a month from it most probably.
