I've noticed one of my sites has started picking up decent stumbleupon traffic, however the one thing I've noticed is that this is not leading to higher earnings. In short my % CTR has nose dived. Is this a standard sort of thing? I'm guessing yes, because with StumbleUpon people are looking at page then stumbling to the next thing.
I'm doing an experiment with SU and adsense/affiliates + traffic analysis (more about it here) My experiment should give pretty decent results and it could probably answer your question. My guess is that SU user don't like commercial stuff, they want to be entertained... p.l.u.r.
You get lower clicks on any social site traffic. This is common and to be expected. They are more designed to get you traffic to your site not necessarily the best way to increase adsense earnings. They are better for the purpose of getting your site noticed and hopefully to get returned traffic which will start to increase your earnings. If you do not have a site that attracts people, they will just surf on to the next site. Build up your original content and make people want to come back and the Stumble traffic will help your earnings.
Nice answer Angelus. Stumbleupon is very effective for new sites, you can get lots of bookmarks, subscribers and backlinks.
My site was stumbled late last week. I had a surge in traffic from 100 to 800 over the last few days but my adsense earnings have remained unchanged and my CTR has fallen to 0.5% When I submit content to Linkdumps I may get an extra 100-200 hits but my CTR is usually a bit higher at around 3-5% Stumble Upon users are usually fairly adept and just skim through each site. Rather than click on an ad they are more likley to just click stumble again.
The main problem with stumbleupon traffic is that you cant expect quality targetted traffic. People use it and click on the stumble to visit the next page.
