    Instead of studying for Linux Essentials, can I purchase a LPIC-1 book directly and study for it? Talking about lpi.org certifications.

    Sure you could just do that if you just want to get the certification, but you're going to miss a lot of basics and other skills that I suppose you will eventually pick up in real world environments.
