The Fed was new and concerned with keeping money in banks. What happened was when banks defaulted and closed down, they demanded collection of debts immediately. I'm glad that can't happend again, a bank can't get in that deep. The fed developed since then and any crisis is covered until real solutions are found.
About illegal immigration, we got to spend money to get the illegals and send them back to their countries. If we take away their jobs and add restrictions while they are here, crime will just go up from basically creating desparate senarios. Either get the ones already here legal working permits or way to become tax paying citizens or send them back. Secure the borders either way. If they can't come across, there is no new issues.
There is no effective and economical method of securing our borders. It's a pipe dream. People should be more realistic.
I'm sure it could be done for a fraction of the war on drugs 'much of what is used on the borders' and the war in Iraq cost us every year
The War on Drugs proved, among other things, that it is impossible to seal or borders. If we can't stop truckloads of drugs from entering the country, we can't stop little Mexican guys from entering the country.
Land fences and not just the chain link fence types, real sturdy fences with secret patrols, water patrols in secret and at intervals across the water borders, nothing that a border jumper can time and then cross.
Not really, looking for a truck with drugs here and there is a bit different from checking ID's. Alot harder to put a person in a secret spot in a vehicle compared to a live person.

Italian and it was good. You're not checking ID's of people who are avoiding your dedicated crossing points. I saw a wonderful demo of our new border fence. One group of Mexicans dug underneath it, another group climbed over it, a third group cut through it. None took longer than 10 minutes. Building, maintaining, and monitoring a human-proof barrier is unrealistically and unreasonably expensive.
Yes but with enough $$$ the barrier could be much better, the security could be much better. Right now there is a sliver of the funds that could be there if you took the war on drugs and the Iraq war $$$$. As usual, Dr. Paul has some solid ideas on the topic. If you remove the incentives to migrate (yes, migrate is the official Mexican term for what they are doing when they compromise our sovereignty), they will be that much more likely to stay home. Coupled with better border security (bring our border security back from Iraq), the problem could be reduced to a trickle. A managable trickle that the underfunded INS could handle.
Yeah, bring the Iraq patrols back and let them patrol the borders here, we'll save on exporting expenses.
The first part of that is the only reasonable solution, but it's a little more complex that Grandpa Paul makes it out to be. If we remove all government aid to illegals, it won't stop illegal immigration -- but it will stop negative immigration. It will keep out the people we don't want, while not affecting the people we do want. Concurrently, we should also make legal immigration possible - for the people we do want. Our current legal immigration policies and process are a complete nightmare. The reason we have so many illegals is that the legal method simply doesn't work. This is something that I have not seen Grandpa Paul understand. Our economy needs workers. Without immigration, we are dooming our economy to a permanent recession. This is another thing that I have not seen Grandpa Paul understand. The whole "border security" thing is a joke. It a sham to fool the slow and weak voters.
You will see our military quit en masse if that plan is implemented. Men who will willingly risk their lives every single day engaging in armed combat with Al Qaeda and Iranian terrorists will simply quit when asked to shoot gardeners and housekeepers.
We could just build training facilities and military bases on the border and our borders will be secure. The forces know that they are not staying there forever. There will be some to police certain things that the new Iraqi gov't needs help with but the rest are coming home no matter what. Those gardeners and housekeepers should cross the regular border crossings or be here already and not that they will shoot them. I would think they would surrender after getting caught not keep running.
