Stuck

I took on a job to increase traffic & get decent rankings for www.find-a-school.co.uk

I looked at the site, I looked at the competition & was quietly confident I could get this sewn up with some top rankings & increase traffic by a decent amount. The owner had previosuly employed other SEO company & they made no progress which is when I joined in.

I know alot of people have been moaning about supp results and cached pages from over a year ago, are these people still having these problems in the big G ? This site is also showing nearly all sup results and from 2005 most of them. I never worried too much about this as I though it would get ironed out in a month or so but it appears not, at least with this site anayway!

This is the only site ive ever had trouble with which is making me wonder if im missing something !

    Any ideas let me know.

    Cheers.

Why would you take a SEO job if you aren't sure what you are doing??

And this is not the correct board for asking this.

"Why would you take an SEO job if you dont know what you are doing ?"

In what context ? Id like to think being top 3 for many very comptitive real estate & property terms in Google ( and other industries) I do, guess I could be lucky but if i am i'd rather have the luck assist me with the lottery.

I am no SEO but these are some possible problems.

    Very few backlinks
    Add more articles and content
    No meta descriptions
    Clean the code
    Use SE friendly URLs

    Huh?
'Market-Trend': Do you know anything at all? The site uses tables and the URLs are pretty much screwed up. What did you do already to get better rankings??
The site used "id=" in its URLs which is such a big no no when it comes to SEO... i just dunno... sorry.. there is nothin else you can do worse.

It's easy to tell him he sucks. But I think he asked for help...

I would start working on getting some quality backlinks first and pay someone to post your site to seo friendly directories, which does not have to cost that much.

'Do you know anything at all?'

Yep I know loads ta, just that there is a problem with this site without even going into the dynamic pages & url rewrites, there seems to be a basic indexing issue with normal asp pages.....I was looking for a more technical answer than the standard, more backlinks, dynamic links need rewriting etc etc that are ten a penny posts on every forum (no offence to 'some' posters)

There should be around 2000 baclinks which arent appearing either. Could it be something to do with the hosts causing weird indexing problems etc ? (never had a problem with hosts before but its about all I can think of)

However if you could teach me something web-spy im all ears.........I dont know much about fishing

ps: I work on a site that uses tables that is number 1 with over 200 million results so I dismiss that part of your post

Google has not been feeling to well.

    Updating is inconsistant.

Old pages that no longer exist are often still in the index.

    Serps are screwy.

    Caches are screwy.

Big Daddy issues are still being worked out, apparently.

I wouldn't say that anyone can do anything reliable in google right now, because google is unreliable.

I'm not saying that your site or your seo can't be improved on (I haven't looked at your site or your seo). I'm just saying it is really difficult to judge seo ability right now because google's messed up.

Yeah, it just seems all too easy to blame google at the moment, I know its pretty screwed because alot of the cached pages are 12 months old.....I could just be being impatient I guess.....after months & no change I was wondering if there was anything glarying obvious that im missing, maybe I just have to wait it out......

No offense but unless you fix the simple problems first how do you expect to get more advanced advice.
Here are a few more, (you or they) are linking too much from the same network and I don't believe that using varied anchor text links at the same page is helping either. You are linking to the inner page listall.asp (which is good) but that page isn't linked from anywhere on the site itself and the page doesn't contain anywhere the anchor text that you are using. If you are targetting those keywords then include some text and keep your linking consistant. (not listall.asp for outside links and listall_fulldirectory.asp for inner links)

Just my 1/10 of a penny
Generally, I would worry more about the simple tweaks that are needed because right now your problem is indexing, fix that and then start worrying about rankings.
