Hi all My client website www.abc.com is redirected to www.abc.com/foldername/index.php... We asked client to remove this but he said "No"... Do it like this... Now i have to do the optimization.. i have placed the tags and now have to start with the off page submission.. Please tell me which URL should i use for submissions and all www.abc.com/foldername/index.php www.abc.com/ Your early response would be appreciable Thanks Claira
Well to be honest you should tell the client to do the redirect the other way round. Makes more sense. Assuming that it is a permanent (301) redirect, you should start using the URL that is in use, not the redirected one. Your would still get the link juice and visitors following the redirected URL.
I don't think there were any problem if you are promoting ur short domain and get ranking as well then peoples are automatically come on redirect page and here you should use your short domain b'coz when you will doing off page work then you will face many problem with your redirected domain like when you submit on directories then most of the directories will not accept your redirect domain they prefer home page domain like www.abc.com
Hey Claira, Guess you should make your client understand that most if not all search engine friendly directories do not accept redirected URLs...... Im sure if you make them understand the importance of getting listed in as many directories as possible with a direct URL rather than getting rejected by most, would make your work also easier..... I would have done that....After all we are doing it for the benefit of the client. Hope this helps...
My advice is to tell your client that the way they have done the website; and wont change it may have a firm effect on their website rankings when it comes down to the search engine optimization ranks. ~ mike
Promote the homepage directly.. I don't understand why people keeps on using redirect when they can use homepage as the best landing page.
Here’s a useful resource from Yahoo! that you could go through to get a better idea on redirects & how the search engines would handle it - http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/search/webcrawler/slurp-11.html As you can see on the post, the search engines would index the original url so long as the redirect is search engine friendly, so you could possibly try and convince your client to make the redirect search engine friendly. Here’s another resource that you could use to find out what type of redirect your client’s site is - http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/redirect-check/ Hope this has been useful, you could pm or reply if you need any more help on this.
