Strength of Character is Not Based on Who You Make Look Bad

If people spent as much time trying to help each other as they did trying make each other look bad, the directory industry would be doing better now. It really takes a lot of strength of character to not be drawn into battles that help nobody.

Strength of Character is Not Based on Who You Make Look Bad

When we spend our time arguing with each other:
    1. It hurts people's feelings
    2. It scares away quality people who would be a great asset to our industry
    3. Often makes the person making the negative comment look bad too.

Nobody is perfect, and we all have made mistakes here. I have no shortage of mistakes. But I do try my best to learn and get better, and I do not waste my time with people that spend their time make others look bad.

It takes more character to find how to help someone that needs help, or to turn someone who speaks badly into a friend than it does to make people look bad and try to "one up" each other.

I really hope some people here will band together and stamp out some of the hateful statements around here. It only harms us all as a whole. It's not any one person. It is just a culture that developed here that needs to change.

Please try to help. Resist the temptation to waste your time with people that are trying to make you look bad. Instead, see who you can help. See if you can turn situations around for the better.

Thanks for reading, and I hope at least a couple of people will try to help.

That is correct, because it is YOU,(the individual) who is responsible for their own actions.

in closing: Blame yourself, and not others for your own actions.

People are at each others throats everyday. Very sad. I hope you will try to help turn this around too. Amit, I don't know you well, but I would also try to be your friend too.

It is an issue affecting the directory industry and specifically this forum.

Unfortunately, I cannot take responsibilty for what others do.

I always remember this quote, I believe from Jimi Hendrix:

"Everyone wants to be an insider, and the easiest way to do that is to make everyone else an outsider"

This certainly happens a lot in society, but I don't think it's happening in the thread quoted above. I think people here have genuine concerns about the way the contest is run, and simply by asking for help in organising the contest, you have too.

Several things happen to start arguments:

usually, a noob or QBC member writes some crappy statement to gain +1 post.

Someone with a sense of humour, like myself or Rob will either proove them wrong, or just generally take the p*ss :D
Other members without a sense of humour, or who feel sorry for the noobs will say "well how can you proove that, look at your *blah* directory, its got x, x and y z 1 wrong with it"

then others join in, taking sides. it usually ends up with arguing over who owns the best dir. who stole mods, or generally who likes who the best.

its a fact of life. to stop this we should

Continue to laugh at QBC noobs/people who post before thinking
Not take sides with the noobs, just make a post helping them out.
Not to attack other members who loaughed at the noobs
not to bring up old times, like who stole your mods/called your directory crap/stole your wife
Support each other. DP is here for amusing convos and helping noobs, not flaming and spamming when it could be done via PMs....

I don't need to change (except the other day when i ripped a QBC noob with a word cloud so badly he eventually apologised, said he may delete the expired domain word cloud, and said he would never try and make a quick buck as he was a Christian (i laughed hard))

People just need to forget the past and move on. Spread the love and make a good directory. No need to argue etc. If there was no dishonesty/noobish members arguments wouldn't happen.
