Streaming free-to-air TV online? Legal or illegal?

I was wondering is it legal to stream free-to-air television online in realtime? What rights would I need to get? I don't see why it should be illegal, it's free to watch on TV, so why not online? I'd be helping those channels reach a broader audience, however I would be making money from it also.

It is illegal and copyright infringement to re-broadcast. TV stations continually get videos of their shows removed from Youtube for DMCA copyright infringement.

A TV Station has a licence to broadcast the content they broadcast. They pay royalty fees to the creators of that content.

When you copy and rebroadcast, you are doing so without a license and without paying royalties. It's illegal, plain and simple.
