   is there a way to use flash(player) to stream internet tv the way the windows media player does?

   yes. but you need to write some actionscript in order to get the video streaming in flash player.
   also, it wont support all the formats that wm player supports and some limited formats only like ".flv", ".mov", ".mp4".
