Straving Musician/Computer Nerd Trying to Market Music

Hello all. I have been sifting through the forums on here looking for helpful information on how to sell my music through iTunes to the masses. I think I have gotten through the initial problems i.e. created my own web server, set up my own web site, gotten my stuff on iTunes, and etc. I initially had a myspace site with over 15,000 people as 'friends', but myspace deleted it without warning. I am not too upset about that because I should have the resources and ability to reconstitute it fairly quickly. My question is what other resources could I use to promote and sell my music? I have flirted with the idea of hitting up music forums and creating music videos for promotion on music web boards and youtube but that seems less than effective to me. Any ideas? Thanks for you everyones time.

    Sincerely,
    Cris Jackson

I like Indie 911...it has intersting marketing capabilities indie911.com or hoooka.com
There are also places like snocap which many myspace musicains use.
I use indie911.com on my site brag.com and there are some quality artists that I try to rearrange often.

Bebo - Create Music Page - Watch Comments Fill and get a fan base, helpful as you can relate back to that to show Record Companies, when you do get offers, that you can sell!
MySpace - Same as Bebo, I would open it back up!
YouTube - Add information about iTunes and where to buy in the Comments!
Google Videos - Same as YouTube!

I am making music myself and I am creating my own plans on getting known, those are just a few!

    GOOD LUCK!

I think that you should certainly consider setting up another MySpace account, I have lost count of how many bands and singers I have spoken to who have told me they have got so much exposure from commenting on other profiles and they come and listen to their music.

    Have you tried www.soundclick.com?

I would also say how about making up some vids and putting them on YouTube? I know a few people who have got great exposure from doing this.

cool sounds like the general consensus is rebuild myspace...I have tired soundclick but i don't think its really going to be effect at selling my music. I have the content...i have (had) the clientele (15,000 on myspace)...and i have the delivery system...i just need the promotion...myspace isn't a problem because I have a catalog of my fans on SQL so i can rebuild...but there's gotta be a better way...thanks for the replies though keep em coming

I would think offline marketing is very important too, first get a strong base in your hometown and then if they like you, the word can also spread virally though the net, as they'll comment about it on myspace, etc.

I actually work as a talent scout for indie and major labels as well as run a management company etc and have worked with many major artists on various projects. The whole thing now is having an organic fan base throughout the internet mainly with myspace and youtube. Secondly it is all about who you know even as a musician if you have any big behind your project that a label knows can push it the way it should be then they will take interest. So my advice would be keep going hard through myspace and youtube and do as many showcases and shows as you can to help build this fanbase. Don't just do internet you need to hit the streets and make a name for yourself also and a radio spin here and there helps greatly just make sure your music is registered with BDS and Mediabase so it can be tracked properly.
