anyone can answer that, what type business model that they do actually, what i miss where are they get revenue to pay tons of servers, everyone can use they services for free without ads at all its hard today to make money from website to pay servers if not using adsense share your knowledge guys
The people who code Wordpress and run it are professionals in web design, coding, and graphics. They basically advertise their skills through Wordpress. Big name companies will pay them to set up a professional wordpress site.
People create spammy blogspot blogs and run AdSense on them ==> this is how Google monetize Blogspot.

Actually the earn from the ads and the hosting they recommend. As you can see from wordpress main site,they did suggest it user to use a certain host,and if people sign up from their website,wordpress will earn the commission.
Many hosting company are willling to host wordpress dot com for free (covering the bandwidth fee) . It is a win-win situation for wordpress dot com and the hosting company . It is a type of donation and ads for hosting company ! You can understand it .
I can't say about wordpress.com but blogspot.com makes revenue from adsense. If you notice, in any blogspot adsense code ,blogger pub id automatically gets inserted that's where blogger takes its pie from Adsense.
Blogspot has an option to add Adsense to your blog. Wordpress, I think it is just a way to advertise thier professional services.
