Strange Virus On My Laptop

Discussion in 'Hardware' started by radiskulllesbo, Jan 8, 2008.

I was downloading some movies off of limewire. I double clicked on one and media player said that the extension and the filetype wasn't the same but it would try and play it if I wanted it to. Well, I said yes and boom! Basically, it has rendered all media players useless. I ran bit defender and it found the virus but couldn't clean it...not even in safe mode. It tells me that the NT kernel has been changed. Any ideas on how to fix this? I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium. Thanks!

First bit defender = blech. You have the name of virus I presume correct? Google it and see if there is a removal tool for it. If there is grab it and run it.

Bit defender did not tell you? If you do not know the name try a copy of nod32. I think you can get a trial version once the file is found make sure it is not hidden and can be written too then rerun anti virus. It should clean it then.

You shouldn't really use limewire at all. Just get an antivirus like AVG etc.

If you're looking for further help and don't mind doing it yourself. I'd suggest you download the HijackThis program and post the log of the results on a forum that helps in interpretating the results of these logs. They will guide you along the removal process.

There's a few forum online that do this. Two that come to mind is bleepingcomputer and castlecops but there's other forums that do the same thing.

Good luck with cleaning out your system.
