    Hi guys,
Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I run a website with a small block of Google ads, not for making money but to just cover the cost of my hosting, as that's all im really interested in at this point.

For the past few years this has been fine, i always manage to cover my hosting costs and sometimes make myself a bit of money for a few beers at the weekend.

However, last week i made $130 instead of my usual $5 - $10, this is, as im sure you'll agree a pretty major spike in revenue - im not complaining, don't get me wrong!

I was just wondering if anybody here could shed some light onto what exactly happened? from what i can see the ads are still the same category of ads that have always appeared on my website, I've not really changed anything bar my usual site maintainance, and site news.
It also looks like this week im going to be going over the $100 point, this is great but id like to be able to isolate whatever is doing this for me, so i could maby squeeze a bit more out of it while i can.

As i say i've never really been interested in "Making loads of money with Adsense!" but since this oppertunity has arose, id like to take advantage of it if i make enough money i'll be able to take my wife and children on holiday, which should be nice!

Is there any tool/reporting features i can use on my adsense account? i've had a look and there seems to be a few, but unsure how to utalise them properly.

If anyone could shed some light on this for me i would be very greatful.

    Thanks,
    Alan.

You started getting a lot of traffic to that site/page and people clicked on the ads that is all there could be to it. You could check traffic and see where it is coming from.

i had that one day last year. then strangely, for the next 2 months my earnings dropped by 50% of my regular $5-$10 and there was nothing i could do to change that. I figured someone was simply "adjusting" the accounting.

Inside adsense you can run a report from last month and compare it to the last 2 weeks. Look to see where the increase came from.

Pageviews - this is what you're hoping to see because the money will probably stay there if it's legitimate traffic
CTR (click through rate) - if this is way high then it might signal someone is doing invalid clicks on your account
single ad price (dollars / clicks) - not very likely, but maybe better advertisers in your niche

If pageviews increased then set up google analytics on your site. Then you can see where your traffic is coming from (search engines, referrals, direct hits, etc.).

For adsense clicks tracking i think adz tracker is a good software
Will cost you a little bit of money but it will tell you exactly where your traffic is coming from and which pages are generating adsense clicks

By monitoring your traffic, you can improve on what's working and slowly increase your earnings
