Strange Problem With Name Servers at GoDaddy

Discussion in 'Site & Server Administration' started by kentuckyslone, Jun 23, 2008.

I regged a domain about 9 hours ago and set the name servers. Up to now the domain is still showing "Page cannot be displayed". Normally, and I have done this many times, the name servers will take effect within a few minutes. I have never seen it take even more than an hour until today.

Has anyone else ever experienced this or have any ideas what the problem could be?

Now, I know some will say that it may take up to 48 hours for name servers to resolve, but as I said I have done this many times over the past few years and I have never had it take anywhere near this long.

An interesting note is that when I checked the who is info it showed the title of the site to be "WordPress Error". I have the WP files uploaded, but havent gotten it installed yet. So the whois bots are able to see that info.

    Any ideas?

Are you sure the problem is not local on your server ?

You could do a ping to see if domain resolve to correct server/ip. If yes, then dns are probably ok, which would mean the server is not resolving right.

Could you try toi delete that account and recreate it ? Maybe it got not setup properly on the server the first time ?

To do a ping, you could go under execute in the start menu of windows. Enter "cmd" then in the command prompt, type "ping domain.com" and see if it resolves to your usual server ip.

This means your ISP dns as not yet updated with this new domain.

Can you do the ping for another domain on same server? If it ping ok 4 times, then, your ISP as not yet updated.

Maybe in same command prompt, you could do this :

    ipconfig /flushdns

    then retry : ping domain.com

I tried another of my domains on the same server and it worked. I suppose it is on GoDaddy's end and maybe it will be OK when I check tomorrow.

Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it a lot. Green has been given to both who have replied here.

    Hi,

If you post the domain name we can check if it configured correctly.

I appreciate the offer, but I do not want to give the domain name. I am sure that it is configured correctly on my end as I have checked and rechecked to be sure.

Well, I figured someone would say that. :D

Yeah, I know that is what they say. However, I have regged around 50 domains in the last few years (all but 3 of them with GoDaddy) and up until now they have resolved to the server in less than an hour.

Now it is nearly 24 hours and the site still isnt coming up.

EDIT --> I should also have said that when I enter the IP address followed by the account user name the site loads normally

Last week I have changed one of my sites DNS and it took 2 days to properly resolve outside US. My domain is with Godaddy as well. Most of the times these issues are with local ISPs. Did you try to check with DnsStuff.com?

That's odd. I never experienced this with my domains, which are all at Godaddy.
