Hi guys, this is happening with the last 3 godaddy vps servers I ordered and after days of headachs I have not found out the solution....help you be greatly appreaciated!

I am on a linux (fedora core 6) godaddy vps server and this is happening with all sites I request: click to view error

Basically this popup appears which asks me to download a file (application/x-httpd-php)

I assume that the server is not recognising php files or something but php is installed and this is a fresh godaddy VPS server so it should have everything on it.

    thanks

    Chris,

It sounds like you'll probably need to recompile PHP & ensure that the files are configured to be processed by PHP. Chat with GoDaddy, it's not an easy process by any means.

there are 2 lines you need to add into apache to enable php files,

    One is AddType
the other is AddHandler, make sure they are both in the apache httpd.conf file.

    Support Staff Response
    Dear Sir/Madam,
    To resolve this issue, please perform the following from within an SSH session;

rename the /etc/php.ini file. Once this is renamed copy the file /usr/local/lib/php.ini over using the following command:

    cp /usr/local/lib/php.ini /etc/php.ini

Once this is done you may restart Apache and your PHP will parse correctly. Please let us know if we can help you in any other way.

    Thank you,

    Support Staff Response
    Dear Chris,

Thank you for contacting Online Support.

If you would like, We can do this service for you. We currently offer a paid-for support service for our Virtual and Dedicated Server customers who need help beyond what we can offer through a general call or support ticket. This service is intended for customers that can maintain their server but are struggling with a task and would prefer for us to assist them with resolving the issue.
It is $75 for the first 30 minutes. If you find you will want to utilize this service please reply with the last four of the credit card on file you would like us to charge to.
Your other option would be to reprovision the server, and it should put the server in a fresh "out-of-box" state. Please note that in doing so, you will loose any data currently on the server.
    ----

So this server never worked from the get go and now they want me to pay to fix their server!?

I am at a loss....the comments above are on the right track though....will continue to try to fix this....if anyone has any suggestion please post here as maybe other have this problem too...

    thanks

I have seen Apache do this when PHP was segfaulting. When that is the case, the downloaded page was an empty file.

Try looking through both the Apache error log (probably found in /var/log/apache2/error.log) and the php error log (Same place ? Called phperror.log)

Hopefully there will be some answers to your questions in those files.
