I've got this strange photoshop error that just started.

Whenever i try to use the selection tool it says

Warning: No pixels are more then 50% selected. The selection edges will not be visible.

    that's not an error.

in other words, you have selected a tint - probably 20% for example.

spray a line with 10% opacity and flow. then select.

spray a line with 100% opacity and flow. then select.

    see the difference?

I dont think so, just went to look at what the tooltip is for the tool and it is called "Rectangular Marquee Tool". After I try to select something it puts up the error. Then deselects the area.

As far as I can tell I havent selected any tint. I have also starting new documents etc. and it still doesnt work.

Figured it out, somehow my feather went up to 250px and that will make that error come up.

yeah, that'll do it. Sometimes when you have a tiny area selected, and a high feather it will do it. I have had that problem myslef, but nothing major.

exaclty. you are inadvertantly selecting a tint value.

if you select a square of 100 pixels with more than 50 pixel feather then it it will happen.

if you select a square of 110 pixels with more than 50 pixel feather then it it won't happen.

feather means 'to soften the edge of', it's a bit like erasing the edge of the image with the eraser set to soft edge (0% hardness).
