Hi everyone, just wanted to ask about an issue im seeing with the listing of my site in google searches. The website is a property site, created in Joomla but heavily modified, and containing a database powered property management system. When i search for the actual domain on google, i get the main page come up, but then as a sub-listing to that i just get a random property listing page which really has no reason to be there at all!! also, when i start searching on other keywords, sometimes all i get is a property listing page, when instead i would be hoping for the main website only to be listed. The website is www.realtc.co.nz, and the searches that i am doing are for "realtc.co.nz" and "real tourism and commercial" on google. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make the listing results a little more friendly, i would be very happy to hear from you!!!! Thanks for your time! Regards, bt
A good and simple way to give your home page more weight with Google is to put a few links from other pages in your site (i.e. the pages that are showing up) which point to your home page. For example, you do a Google search and one of your pages shows up. On that page write the following - "To see more properties like this... click here." And make that phrase a contextual link going to your home page.
What I've found is that Google prioritizes the page with the most links. I used to have my site with the focus on the blog. I'd get a main listing for my site, and then a listing for my blog. I changed all of the links to focus on my main page, and now only my main page gets listed in the SERP's. So build links to the main page, and it should regain the priority.
