Strange issue -- my client site is not shown in the google results.

I have been entrusted to maintain a site and do some seo for the website, i found a strange problem which i have never faced. I added that site into sitemaps, i have linked the sitemap.xml and feeds to google and also by putting up a verification page. My client site is almost 6 years old. I see many keywords rank in the top of google results, but the problem is I see it only inside sitemaps control panel but not in reality. When i checked for the position the site was not there. I checked in all domains of google. Tell me i have submitted a reconsideration request to reconsider the site again.

How to exactly handle this and make my client site get back to search results as before.

It's just a fluke, don't worry about it, they will come back.

Better to set up a Google analytics on the site to see if you are getting true traffic from the keyword..

I've experienced the thing you're talking about. I don't know why it happens, but I lost my rankings for my top keywords. I waited for a few weeks, and then it was up again. All you have to do is to wait and as I earlier said, I do not know why this is happening.

Can you check the site's AWStats, assuming there is one, and see if you've gotten any referrals from Google? I know Google likes to make my websites 'dance' sometimes and push them here and there in terms of rankings from time to time.

This happens to me all the time. Says I'm #3 or something for a keyword and then I click it and not even on the first or second page. I think its is a fluke like the second post mentions.

Sorry but if I was in your shoes, I wouldn´t wait a minute but started some countermeasures like link building. I encountered the very same scenario numerous times with my sites. I have no "do this and don´t that" handbook for you but many of my sites broke this "spell" just by getting some backlinks. Even the link exchanges are OK if you do them with trusted sites.

There are several reason why your client's site is not showing up.

One: It might be the previous guy who did the optimization used black hat SEO and it is just now that Google penalize the site

Two: It might be that someone hacked your client's site and deleted it from Google just what the other poster said.

try site: in Google, if it appears, do not worry, it can reappear in the results soon; if not, that maybe related to the bad seo steps..

I've had times where I can't seem to find my website within the rankings. Don't worry, it'll come back like it did for me.
