Strange FTP problem, anybody know how to fix this?

Every now and then my computer seems to get "stuck" and isn't talking to my modem. When it's just my browser I keep hitting the connect and refresh button sometimes repeatedly before it re-connects. But whenever I try to upload anything it really gets bad, downloading isn't giving me to much problems, it's like the browser.

However, when I upload anything what normally would take a minute or two is taking twenty minutes or more. I have to keep re-connecting every few seconds. If I don't do anything and just upload it just stops. I have to continuously keep clicking on links to sort of keep the modem active to finish uploading. It still stops and I need to re-connect again, but at least it uploads.

If I'm just surfing the web in my browser it still stops, but it's bearable (just), but when I try to FTP it goes bonkers. It's a brand new modem and computer. And according to my ISP (Road Runner) the power is okay, the power light on the modem is alright, but somehow it seems that the computer and modem isn't "talking" correctly all the time, especially when I try to upload, FTP and browser.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

Try to specify your port number...that might help. You can also try to reconfigure your FTP software so the settings will be refreshed...hope that helps...

Seemed to help a little, but it's still kicking me off. Strange cause when the FTP problems start the browser doesn't connect as well. Guess I'll try a different FTP software and my other webhost.

    Thanks
