Lack of names, thats crazy, that are crap load of great names out there for directories, with both directory being as 1st and/or 2nd word, I have a very large list of 112 that I am saving for someone, and all really unique names. Reason for these stupid names, is because ppl are thinking they will earn some big green if they take a free script and add it to an domain that was once expired with a PR3 or what ever, but they said a Premium PR3 directory, with a free template, where the header logo isnt even changed, and none of the innerpages have PR. I really think ppl should start a list of these type of directories, and none of should submit to them.
It's not crazy...all the good domains are taken. That's why all the new directories have some funky names. Im not sure what you consider good domains, but to me there is a lack of good names for directories. Regarding the "stupid" names going around, I agree with you that there are a lot of people trying to make a quick buck. That's no mystery.
Do my directory names sound funky too .. but there are still few good names you can still think of, its all about creativity , i picked myself few good domain names only last week..
to be honest, I did use expired domain as directory: for eg: www.cbgred.com I did take advantage of its old PR or backlinks to get a small money back so that I can have some budget to continue investment. I must thank Chris who bought many links from me ( I remember I sold regular links at $3 then, Chirs paid about $80 to me totally for cbgred.com). After linkbuilding, it keeps its PR and many categories got PR 4. I am serious on directory. but I admited it embarassed me too. www.dirwizard.com is not bad name, IMO and I invest about $200 per month marketing fee so far to it. Hope I can get PR 6 soon -
but most ppl think that good directory names, need to include directory and/or dir in them, thats not true, there are tons of great names that are highly brandable, like activeweblinks, whats wrong with the name? nothing, doesnt have dir or directory in it, but still a big player when it comes to directories. Gii.in doesnt have dir or directory but still a great name.
I don't know...not sure which directories you own. As far as what is a good or bad domain, it's a matter of opinion. Let me hear what you picked up and I'll tell you if I like it or not.
Well, I definitely don't think you need to have the word "dir" or "directory" in a domain for it to be a quality directory. I mean look at dmoz.org or bcentral.com. These names have no relations to a directory, but still very successful. The problem I have is when domains like sallyscurtains.com or xxxsexvids.com are turned into a general web directory.
Alright here i go.. www.sbclansite.com www.h-log.com www.directoryorama.com www.directoryblend.com www.aidirectory.com i had another few domains but i let them expire though
To tell you the truth, dont get mad, or I really dont care to tell you the truth, but sbcclansite I really think this is one of those random domains that hate when I see turned into directories, and h-log as well, I like the other ones, because you took the time to find good names.
To be frank i do not like sbclansite and h-log names for directory either, but those were my first 2 domains ever, first h-log.com was sponsored by some fella..and than later on i took over.. And i am not
I speak my thoughts and this is my opinion, so dont be offended. sbclansite and h-log, I do not like. directoryorama and directoryblend are average or OK, but not good aidirectory is probably the best one, as long as you can come up with a good niche for it.
American Idol would be nice niche dont yaa think ? And i think its google banned also its not getting indexed while other 2 are already indexed.
Yeah, thats an option. But, there's a lot of options for the name: http://72.14.253.104/search?hl=en&q=aidirectory American Indian Directory, Animal Industry Directory...these are just examples. How old is the domain?
It was first registered in 2004, than expired i am guessing and i got it only few weeks back, but why ask?
You should ban those names from ur pc using ur firewall so by mistake you do not end up going to the sites.
I guess it all boils down to how hard someone markets a name and how long term is their domain intention. If they are serious, any name can be a hit!
I agree, and users most of the time search for directory for maybe phone numbers and stuff, but it does help to have a related term in domain. @steve, just got aidirectory indexed on google, so pheef its not blacklisted by google.
