i have just read this that keywords with high search volume and with no competition at all ( 0 advertisers doing Adwords campaign for the kw)

These keywords will not be $0.01 despite there is no competition ... They will cost more because of the high search volume .. This is simply horrible ...

Is what i have read true ?

    I'm confused...

If you mean something like this:

to bid on 'dog' it costs like $.30 even though there are no advertisers.

    Is that what you mean?

Assuming this is true (I've not encountered it before, so I don't know either way) this makes sense. It's better for Google to give a few high quality adverts than make searchers have to put up with loads of irrelevant ads.

they want people seeing their ads as relevant...they don't want to have generic shop at eBay ads for 1 cent on every broad term...so they raise the minimum on many of them

    Where did you read that?

Have you logged into your AdWords control panel and tested that theory out?

Sorry, but you don't know what you are talking about.

$.20 is the minimum bid, not $.30, my fault there.

Here is the screen shot. It has nothing to do with the amount of advertisers.

the amount to bid increases with the number of advertisers ...

The minimum amount you can bid if there is no competition is $0.05 .. Dog is not $0.05 because there are other advertisers bidding for this keyword ..

    ok ?

    Firestorm,

You are confused between two things.

    1. minimum bid to even have the chance to have an ad shown.
    2. minimum bid to actually get onto google.

For the keyword 'dog' google says that the minimum bid is $.20.

To actually get into the rankings you would either have to bid more. I am guessing because that because the top bidder pays around $.60

    Here is another example:

    'buy text links'
    minimum bid? $.03
    Top bidder? over $2.00

    Another example

    'mets season tickets'
    minimum bid? $.04
    top bidder? over $1.50

    Hope that helps some.
