Uploaders may stop using storage.to but first they will stop using less paying hosters, like hotfile. btw. where are those screens you promissed?
regarding pictures, the guy didn`t like my idea to post his case here .. but i`ll try to get them .. when i saw his account it had nearly 170K downloads stated in the main page and his files were movie trailers which actually had nearly 300k downloads ... 170K downloads are unique ones which are counted and the remaining were shaved ones i guess .... he claims to have shared his links in video sharing websites .. youtube etc storage.to paid him when he requested first time (10$) . they started ignoring him after second payout request u have seen storage.to .. what are the various ways someone would cheat their system ?
1st: Ask yourself, why would anyone download trailer when he can go and watch (download) official trailer on apple quicktime page? 2nd thing: youtube is the site for streaming video. You cannot get download from youtube. You can only spam every single video post with your storage.to link. And still, why would ppl go and wait to download your trailer when they can wath the trailers on youtube by simply using a search option. 3rd: I believe there are many ways that you can try to cheat system. Here are 3: 1) You upload one file that is 90 MB in size (that is the lowest paying size). Then if you have fast connection you use huge list of different proxies to download that file. That way your downloads will appear from different locations. BUT hosting sites are not stuped. They know that and they will notice it. 2) If the site has the problem with downloading counter so that counter show every download attempt but not actual finished download, it's even easier. You use those proxies to just start the download. As soon as download start, download counter change the number. Then you go with another proxie. 3) Go to some freelancer site and offer payment to somebody to do all of the above for you. These are the ways that I got on my mind right now. Offcourse, as I said, hoster operators are not morons. So you will be 'busted' very soon. And for these or similar reasons I would support hosters desision not to pay anyone who tried to cheat the system. Every game has its own rules. Important thing is that both sides have to respect these rules. If you don't like the rules, don't play it. It's that simple. The only thing that nobody like is when the rules are changed in the middle of the game. Changed by uplaoders (by trying to cheat the system) or changed by hoster (by trying to shave actual downloads). btw. That guy should share his details here. This is one of many reasons why this board is used. To share information about the affiliates. And ...if he is not 'guilty' in all this, he has nothing to worry about for sharing his trouble here.
what if a user uploads a normal video and claims it as porn video in porn sites ... there are many porn sites which don`t care abt spam posts ... the most downloaded files on the net r porn files .. thats not cheating the system ... storage.to has nothing to do abt anyone`s posts .. all they care abt is number of users downloading frm their site ... its a known fact that storage.to is filled with illegal files only .. i`m sure 99.9% of files they host r copyrighted ( porn/softwares/movies ) afaik no one can use 170k proxies ... and btw no file hosting site checks whether the file is downloaded completely or not .... thats not the way download counters works ... once the file is accessed, it is considered as a download whether its downloaded completely or cancelled in between .... Edit: afaik a person can have as many accounts as he wants in any forum . i think there is no way he cheated the system . its all about how he shared his files and storage.to does`nt like him for what he did and i`m sure it could happen with any of us .
well, everyone can share trailes on porn boards.... until somebody report him for spam. And that's the way how many BIG pron boards works. The other way is if you post something that is something else. You will lose the trust of the downloaders. If you try that on big board, lot of ppl will ignore you. Simple because first post after yours will be someone confirming that you posted something else. So you are left with small pron boards without spam control. But to achive his result you will need a huge amount of small boards to share your spam links. No, he coudn't achive it that way. And yes you are right, that is not cheating the system, but he just coudn't get that result by doing that. His earnings are way too big for a hoster that started business just recently. About proxies....I am not a hacker but I do believe they use big list of hosters when they try to hack some site. So why not someone try to use huge proxy list to try cheat the system? I guess you are reffering to big hosting players on the market? Yes, rapidshare and few others may not count finished downloads. And they don't care just that much, because you have to achive 10.000 downloads to buy (or extend) 1 month premium, while you can just pay $6-$7 and have a premium subscriptions without so much effort. But small hosters that just showed up, they are forced to pay you for uploading (downloading). That way they get own promoters, and they hope ppl will buy premiums. And while it could be that you are achiving nice download count, they have to worry about how many ppl bought premium accounts. Nobody like to lose money. So...it's in there own interest that download counters show actual FINISHED downloads, and not just how many ppl tried to download the file. The only thing that doesn't concern me too much as an uploader is if nobody (or only small amount of ppl) got premiums from my links. I guided the ppl with my link to the site. If they want to download as free user, I can't force them to buy premiums. And since they visited site because they followed my link (that has something they want to have), my job is ended there. I got them on site. Everything after that is there own choice. That's why I don't like when hosters, like hotfile, change the rules while the game is still on. And btw. storage.to show how many premiums you made and it also show that every premium user has $2 value to you. So, I am even more happy to know that my links made premium users. It's because I am getting payed for that. With hotfile they just say 'our system is more complex, we have a 'RATIO'. So no mater what you do, they keep lowering your earnings. Like I am the one who have to force ppl to buy premiums. And what would hotfile do? What is there job? To only count there own earnings? NO!
Do you receive any notification when request the payout? I just request payout but didn't receive any notification or email.
You guys are talking what count or not count. Does Storage count only 1 download per IP no matter how many files that IP downloaded or does it count all the downloads? I'm asking because I that that people use to download more than 1 file from me. Trying to cheat the system with proxies is a hard thing to do. I'm pretty sure that most of the file hosting know very well all the proxies, so they can just do not count the downloads from proxies. Besides, I know that some proxies block file hosting for performance reasons. You can find 3 or 4 proxies that will work fine, but 170K?! I don't think so... If Storage is doing this because of the cheaters, it is ok as long as they put the counter as it was before after find and fix all the bugs. Oh, and ban the cheaters too. About counting if the file was downloaded or not... Storage should measure the costs. They get paid by the ads no matter if the file was downloaded or not. And if someone decides to not download the file after accessing the page or if this person stops the download before it finishes, it saves server resources. However, counting anything, downloaded or not, will make it easier to the cheaters. So... save resources or kill the cheaters? I got the notification few seconds after requesting and 6 days later I got the money.
here u go ... so the conclusion is theres no way he cheated the Storage.to system ... instead Storage.to is cheating him Storage.to is purposely not paying him .... they should atleast reply his mails .... and this could happen to anyone of u guys too .... its upto u now ...

Wait a minute... there are really strange things on his account. He got 169625 downloads from 3 files? It must be some rare stuff like a real alien autopsy! Those 3 files are using 0MB on the server. How?! I don't know what that transfer number means (2.118). Total amount of any transfer? DL and UL? So I can't say what that means. But it is strange. You say he is uploading movie trailers. As someone said, why would a person download from Storage.to movies that can be downloaded for free from Apple, IMDB, etc? Even posting on a porn board pretending that it is a sex scene... it is too much downloads. Ask him what is the movie. I gonna post the full movie. If a trailer gets that, imagine the full length movie
its not what he shared .. its about how he shared it .... 170k users is very less compared to actual number of users who download from the internet ... atleast storage.to should reply to his mails ... Transfer & Downloads means .. how much user downloads using an account ... its of no use ... Edit : Used Space showed 0 even when I opened an account and remote - uploaded atleast 500 mb data
@ StreetCat As a_person said getting 169625 downloads from 3 files is strange but can be considered possible.. Considering the files are atleast 90MB in size, the 3 files should amount to 270MB or 0.26GB.. But why is the "Used space" column showing 0 GB???
Top section on that picture (or your profile page) is about your own actions, so: Downloads show how many files you downloaded Transfer show the sum in size of all files that you downloaded Uploads show how many files you uploaded Used Space show the used space on storage to drives that are reserved for your uploaded files. Hsirah86 is right. If he uploaded 3 files and every file is 90 MB in size, his Used space should show 0.26 GB and not 0 GB. I totally agree with you. What kind of files he was sharing to get 169625 downloads only from 3 files in such short period of time (since storage.to is a new hoster). Some stolen data from Area 51 ? Offcourse, kill the cheaters. They only want to steal hosters money. And every hoster before he started business he already decided that he will need lost of resources if he want to do business. So the hoster already calculated resources when he was thinking about business. But he is not in business to allow cheaters to steal money form him. Again, 'kill' the cheaters. Also, do you guys receive responding these days from storage.to. I sent them 3 letters in last 6 days complaining about earnings problem and I still didn't received any respond from them. I can't believe that they are ignoring my messages, but everything is possible.
OK, I have another thought... My Used Spaces are stuck at 70.357 GB for days, probabbly 15 days or so. That means they have another bug there. Strange thing your Used Space show 0 GB. That may further mean that you started using storage.to in last 15 days or so (when the bug occured). That also mean that your...errr ... 'friend' (?) also started using storage.to recently. Which now even more prove that he couldn't make so much downloads in so small period of time. Can you tell us how many days ago he complained about storage.to on another forum?
its possible to get 170k downloads in 10-13 days as long as u know the tips & tricks of sharing .... 170k is a very less percent of users who download things frm internet .... there r many other ways to share links which most of us don`t know .. and btw if someone wants to cheat a file hosting website system he would go for rapidshare or megaupload or depositfiles .. afaik no one would never go for a newly started site like Storage.to btw he requested on 17-07-09 .. he started complaining after 4 days .. u can find it in the tutorials section of the most visited warez forum .... I can easily say that he was cheating. Dont say to me that from almsot 200k downloads, he didnt sell one single premium My friend has about 10k downloads and 89 sold premiums
