Did you know that UK schools are fingerprinting our kids - without asking permission from the parents.

    Talk about a police state!

If you are from the UK please sign the petition here

Is this happening in England and Wales too? Scotland is a bit of a strange fish when it comes to the law so maybe this isn't UK wide.

As far as I can tell it's more an England and Wales problem than a Scottish one - we are a bit too civilised up here ;)

In that case it really is worrying. I encourage everyone in Scotland to petition their Westminister sitting MP and have this England/Wales travesty overturned! ;) I signed BTW.

I don't see the problem with it, in the long run it will make solving crimes more efficient.

Why do you want them not to fingerprint your child? If (God Forbid) Something happens to your child, this could be the one thing that would help to identify them. In the long run it is one of the best things (I think) that can be done. I wish the US would do this...

I agree, ppl haven't gotten so used to complaining about government and thier decisions that suddenly every decision is a bad one, I suggest you have a think about it for a minute, there are far more advantages to such a system than there are disadvantages, infact I can't think of a one single disadvantage, except for the fact that it's given everyone something new to whine about.....

The problem is that if the government have too much information it becomes open to misuse - in the case of children misuse of total innocents. Believe it or not we have a government that is as bent as a dog's back leg - they wouldn't hesistate to make a few bucks at someone else's expense. You just need to look at the way the DVLA is selling driver's information to insurance companies and the uproar the NHS super database is causing in the medical profession.

I don't, the DVLA do thier job, and the nhs have treated me and my family everyime I needed it, it's just whining man ..... if they don't have enough information it's difficult to manage all the people they are responsible for.

If you don't mind your schools fingerprinting your children, then:

    a) Please scan your fingerprints and post the image here (after all, you have nothing to lose)

    b) Please scan the fingerprints of your children and post them here (after all that can only be good - right?)

    c) If you are unwilling to do the above then I claim my case proved.

How are they going to misuse the fingerprints? Are they kept in the schools possession or given to law enforcement? (Not from the UK so confused....)

I don't have anything to scan my prints with, but it wouldn't really matter, my fingerprints are already in the met and national police database anyway, if you get arrested, even for drunk and disorderly the police have the right to take your fingerprints.

    You're just being totally ridiculous.
