Hi, I want to start a project about fighting SEO spam. I decided this because I am tired to see SEOed sites which are very high in the search engines because of their malicious techniques. If the search engines don't fight enough in this direction, I want to do it! Let the Internet surfers know what kind of persons are behind the sites they visit! I want to do this the best way, and to make it nice from the beginning. Thats why a want to see others' opionions and ideas regarding this project. So, if anyone is willing to participate in this, please PM me. If I feel that you aren't the right person for this, I won't answer the PM... The discussion about this project will probably take place on the projects' forum.
Seems like a pretty big undertaking. It is certainly something the SE's take very seriously and if they cant combat it effectively what can you do differently? I just report mailicious sites to the SE's when i see one. What else did you have in mind?
I can give you an example of a site that uses keyword spaming (hidden text) that is ranked #3 in Google! For a long time! I am thinking at a site where users report things like that and, if their reports are approved, all the visitors of the site will know that site makes unfair optimizing. Also, it would be useful for people who want to buy sites!
Crazy_cow_deasese... uh, Crazy_Rob... SEO works just fine for me this is not the reason of my initiative...
Hidden text, by itself, isnt gonna make you site #1. And if i was a consumer, and the website i was visiting had hidden text, but also had the products/services i wanted to buy...i wouldnt care about the hidden text.
Sorry, I just don't see so-called "search engine spam" as being an issue. But good luck w/ your project!
So, I worked hard and created the website. It's organised starting from the DMOZ categories. Submiting links is very easy. Links must be validated by me after they are submitted. http://www.stopseospam.com/ I dedicate this to the s#ck3r that gave me a RED and commented "talking crap again" when I started this thread Please read the legal disclaimer before entering the site! ======== if any moderator is willing to modify the thread's name to STOP seo spam, instead of FIGHT seo spam, i thank him in advance
Adolix - Who the hell are you to decide what Spam is? You better watch out who you stick on that list of yours - you'll mess with someone who has a lot more money than you and they will sue your pants off for libel/slander. If you have a problem with sites you don't like ranking in Google then you should be blaming google for it - the sites are only doing what google makes them do to rank.
I agree with yo-yo. Why are you so upset with people spaming the SE's with black hate SEO tricks? Blame the SE's for letting that site rank so high. And like someone else said, there's more then their black hat reasons they rank so high. Using hidden text isn't going to move them from page 1,000,000 to page 1 #2 position. I'm wondering if this is a new website idea of yours you're trying to get attention to it here and have us add sites to yours to help it grow. I mean, if you really wanted to stop these sites you'd report them to the SE's. But you're not doing that... you're creating a new site showcasing these sites. Just makes me wonder
Since I think your plan is seriously flawed I won't be participating, but even if I was interested, that comment of yours would totally turn me off. Common courtesy would dictate that you politely answer every PM that is sent to you... especially considering that these are people who want to help you. my 2c
In my opinion Google has it pretty well under control. Search results are very relevant again (unlike about a year ago). I only see spam when i use keyword combinations for which there is little real content on the web. And where do you draw the line? Most SEO is very good for everyone if it allows people to find what they are looking for. Spamming search engines isn't illegal, either.
guitarlp, I don't have anything with SEO! I just have with Spamdexing. And of course nobody will go from #1.000.000 to #2.... but if it goes from #50 to #2 because of black seo, than it's not fair! I think it would be fair that EVERYBODY use seo, only white seo, and who does it best, gets to the top of SERPs. I reported sites to Google, they responded and thanked me, probably others did it too, but having a database of black seoing sites would be much more easy - for us and for the search engines!
I don't think you see the big picture though. For ever 1 great and well optimized site on the net, there are probably what? 100 bad ones? Maybe that's a little too much... but there's still way more people willing to create black hat sites then properly designed sites. For example, if you create a new site it will takes you weeks... if not months to get all your content, design, and maintain the site. A spammer can create more then 10 sites in a day and never again maintain them. I know your frustrated... but it's not your battle to fight. Let the SE's deal with them as they actually have people on their payrole that try to fight these things. Your website isn't going to help any of us... and it's not going to help the SE's... it's only going to piss off the people that own those sites and it may cause trouble for you. And honestly, I think some people new to SEO may visit your site and find those ideas "kewl" and try to impliment them on their own sites. It may actually do more harm then good
I agree with others, let google and other se's worry about spam in their indexes. Besides G has 5000 people workin and 1000 of them are millionairs so let them work a little for that kind of money. Also I cant see any good that you could get in pointing fingers to some sites. Only trouble. Or if you do it's better to put examples of SPAM but without naming anyone. Or maybe thats also bad idea. Why? Because existing spammers could learn new techniques to spam. And there you go. In effort to stop spam you are promoting it.
LOL sorry [guitarlp I didn't notice but my post is almost same as yours just in different words similar thinking I guess
You may ignore this site if is not please you. I do not see nothing wrong. If you do..then forget about it. Wait for SE to do they job. "Who the hell are you to decide what Spam is?" Sites are decide for themself. And anyway..people send sites to this directory..not adolix put sites on it. Greatings.
i think Google , msn or yahoo have many engineers which take care of this .. They have billions of dollars to spend to remedy this if they wanted. If Google would have given you a Job to trace out the spammers , then only i think you should have done this .. because by doing this now , i do not think the Search engines will know of your site (stopseospam.com ) , and remove these spam sites out of their engines.
Actually it looks like you listed that ABF site many many times for the pages that are competing with your site. Looks like a jealousy issue to me It's not fair? What are you like 12 years old? Life isn't fair buddy. Are you going to make a site about all the people who have a bigger penis than you also and claim they're bad because yours is smaller and it's not fair? The internet is FREE. There's no law that says you have to SEO a certain way. Quit trying to be big brother and tell people what to do.
