Studies show that the human mind reacts positively to the numbers 7 and 9, that's why so many prices are at $97. I think I even read somewhere that the number 8 is perceived to be a sub-par number.

The human subconcious is very strange, but on average you should actually sell more copies of a $97 ebook than an $88 ebook, even though the $88 ebook is cheaper.

We sure are a strange species eh?

Its called psychological pricing and it is used all the time on people. People subconciously tell themselves that 9.99 or 9.97 is much cheaper then $10.00.

I found a website that tells you all about the number 7 http://www.virtuescience.com/7.html

    such examples are:

    7 is a Prime Number.
The 7 colors of the rainbow.
The 7 double letters of the Hebrew Alphabet.
    The 7 classical planets.

    And the list goes on.

I think you can buy the list for $7.77 (just joking)

Don't argue with the marketing experts and risk getting less sales. Just keep your prices which ends with 7.

I've grown tired of seeing the number 7 everywhere too. I personally like going with a number under 5 just cause it makes the price seem on the low end.

Anyway, the first place I remember reading about this 7 pricing technique was in the Irresistable Offer by Mark Joyner. Since then, the idea just snowballed until everyone started doing it.

What you are tired of seeing has no bearing on what your consumer wants. Thinking about what you like and dislike when trying to sell to others will only hinder your success.

As for reading Mark Joyner - Anything he's written should be made into lining for the bottom of a bird cage.

People were using 97 before the Internet or joyner was thought of......
